My Nissan Quest 2000 odometer and speedometer stopped working. The mechanic said that he thought it was due to a sensor and he has since replaced the sensor. He now says that the problem is still not fixed and that I need a new odometer and speedometer (new dash as he calls it) as well.\r\n\r\nhe wants to put in a used "dash" as it will be less expensive ($ 150 for the part) than a new one ($ 500). The car is at the mechanic still and he is waiting for me to give him the go ahead. My concern is that the new (used) odometer will not read the same milage as my existing one (69,000 miles) . Does this sound right ?

If you're finding it difficult to service/repair your car, get one of those online manuals. You'll not have to wait
for others to answer, or rely on mechanics and all. Plus i know a website that has very good manuals online, without expiry i.e. for lifetime. www.reliable-store.com
as for the speedometer and the odometer reaplace your speed sensor but for the shifting problems i would replace the transmission fluid and put a quart of lucas stop slip transsmision fluid
if speedometer and odometer are not working, chances are that the speed sensor is bad and stopped working. find vehicle speed sensor on transmission, the connection may be corroded or the sensor itself is bad. good-day !!
yes it does, this is why you have a written work order with the milage from your speedo and the milage from the replacement speedo on them with all other info for proof when selling or submitting info at secretary of state office for correct title odometer reading. Plus a lower milage speedo just makes you feel better don't it? WOW, 69,000 0n a 95? to bad its not under warranty. I just hate to spend money and not fix the problem. Ask mechanic to verify in writing that this fix will fix the problem and if not is he gonna fix with no further charges. Okay then put old sensor back in or use that money spent toward the real fix. You can't let someone just keep on guessing, you could spend $100.00 + and still not get a resolution. Just a temper.
Most common is the speedometer, for you speedometer issue. As for your radio display. If the radio works but has no display, then it's a radio problem not a fuse.
it is likely the VSS, vehicle speed sensor on the top rear of the trans. one 10 mm bolt, but often the VSS won't come out due to corrosion. spray with penetrating oil.
The VSS sends a signal to the speedo cluster. Cluster converts signal and sends it to speedo and odometer and also to engine computer.
If your cruise control also does not work, it is VSS.
