Spanner light comes on when I start my 2007, mitsubishi galant fortis. what does that mean. I cannot understand it because the writing is in Japanese

The spanner light means that there is a fault in the engine department. Have the fault code read . It could be something as simple as a reminder that the timing belt is due for replacement. Check the mileage and if it is around 100.000 it could be the warning.

At what mileage should a timming chain be replaced?

Timing chains are never replaced unless the enginme is being rebuilt or it fails, this is not true of timing belts which are rubber drive belts for the cam or cams, they are replaced at about 90,000 miles This car doesn't use a timing belt in the 3.1 Liter V6 used in this car.

Water pump barring went out on my 1997 rav4. I heard it knocked the pistons into the values? Is that possible?

The water pump is driven by the cam belt and on some vehicles with an interference engine if the water pump failed and cause the cam belt to break then it could cause internal engine damage. Your 1997 Rav4 water pump is driven by the cam belt but is not an interference engine. So, not to worry as no damage has been done. Just replace the water pump and cam belt and all should be well.

on any auto about 50,000 miles is average it's cheaper to replace the belt then an engine. when the belt breaks most engines will bend the valves and toyotas are good for that

1997 Mitsubishi Galant will not start

Is the engine still in time? YOu may have slipped the camshaft timing due to a belt problem. This engine is an "interference" type, meaning that you may have suffered a major amount of engine damage if this is the case. The pulses can be seen using a digital MM...accordiaman
