As long as you put the gears on with the marks facing each other ,you should not have to adjust the timing.but if you moved the distributor .then you have to retime the dist.

84 should still have points. before you remove the old chain make sure number 1 cylinder is at top-dead-center for firing. Be sure the rotor in the ditributor is pointing at number 1. If you are careful in your instal and dont move anything all will be fine when you are done. If something moves be sure the timing marks and rotor are lined up again before you install chain. Timing marks should be on the crank and cam pulleys and should be lined up. Check a manual for correct alignment

SOURCE: Timing Chain

dont kill the messenger but here's a link how to do it and it's a fairly big job .good news is you can leave the engine in the car to do it but you'll end up striping down the whole top end and all the plastic guards on the front . anyways click here if your up for the challenge . same thing in my own garage w8ing for parts.

I suggest that you visit the autozone.com website and register the car. It doesn't cost anything and will give you access to an online repair manual for the car. The steps for replacing the timing chain should be available there. Hope this helped and best wishes.
