Is there a way to turnoff headlights, in the day time when not needed, on the 1997 catera?

Sounds like your anti theft is kicking in. If you use a key without a transponder or the wrong key, you will get the same results.

Your cruise will not work if the brake lights are on just like the cruise disengages when you hit the brakes.As far as the brake lights with the headlights,sounds like there is something crossed.If you hold your breaklights on with your headlights off is there a glow of the headlights or your running lights.If your rear bulbs are the round push in and turn type make sure they are installes correctly.You may have one where the contact on the bottom of the bulb is causing a jump of power from your running/parking light over to the brake light side.Well hope this helps and good luck.

Sounds like you have a short to ground causing your fueses to blow. These can be difficult to find at times. You will have to look around for wires that are grounding out on the frame or on another wire. It could possibly be found in the engine compartment. Move wires around and start looking under wire looms and such. Good luck....

Have you tried turning the key in the ignition with the chip in it? Some cars work if you turn the key on and off a number of times, say 5-6 times, and most cars with auto locks will lock & unlock when things have been reset to let you know.
