Clean sensor when cold with mass air sensor cleaner only.

SOURCE: 2000 nissan xterra knock senor and plug 5

Have you changed all the plugs to platinum and wires? My xterra was doing that and I changed all of them and now it runs great. Also, I changed the distribitor cap and rotor button.

SOURCE: 95 nissan maxima 3.0. have replaced knock sensor

I would have the charging system checked for over-voltage and AC ripple. There maybe a hidden wire harness problem if the charging system is okay. Wiggle test the wire harness while the engine is running to help locate the problem area. That is way to many parts replaced.

Check-- the knock sensor should be replaced if it is setting a code. Second, the misfire on number 2 hole could be a defective injector. There is a known problem for the 2002 and 2003 models. Pull the plug from #2 hole and compare it to another plug. If #2 is black and the others are not you have a leaking injector. Also, perform an ohms check on all the injectors and I bet #2 will be less than the rest. make sure you use a quality sensor, Lee Davidian

2000 nissan xterra was barley running yesterday missing and sputtering took forever to get up to speed and this morning it is running fine what could this be

Sometimes the computer will have an intermittant glitch. Wait to see if problem reoccurs and monitor it based on engine start-up/run conditions. ( I. E.) Hot, Cold, Under A Load, Idling, Cruising.

Jerking when gas is pushed or in idle

It has been my experience with nissan that from your description, the EGR valve is bad."exaust gas recurculater" However it also may have a fuel filter issue due to perhaps water in fuel, trash, etc. If the engine operates correctly once you get it past the "shaky"area then the chances of the EGR valve being bad are better.
Hope this helps.....Good Luck!

My 00 nissan xterra is sputtering like its out of gas what could it be ?

You mean make pop noise or explosion noise?
If so. It could be water in the gas line or very dirty air filter.

92 maxima jerking an sputtering does not stall what could this be

It could be one or a combination of a few things. 1.) There could be moisture in the gas. 2.) A bad fuel filter. 3.) If you seem to lose power as you're driving, it could be your converter. I would check the fuel filter first.

My 2000 Nissan xterra started shaking while idling and the service engine light came on. I changed the oil and it feels better. It doesnt knock In neutral or park. It also rattles till you hit about 30...

Also- the rattle is most likely the valve lifters. The lifters on this engine and the model previous (I have owned both to 180k miles or more) lose pressure when the motor is off. They re-pressureize with engine oil after the motor starts and tap a little until they "pump up" to full size. Just don't drive until the rattle dies down and as long as it is under 30 seconds or so- you will be fine there.

I have a 2000 nissan xterra and when it gets to normal running temperature it starts to sputter, looses rpms, missing, and then power. Then it wont start back up i changed the fuel filter and the fuel pump...

You need a distrubuter. I would not us an aftermarket one because Nissans do not like aftermarket parts for some reason. But that is most likley it.

000 NISSAN Xterra -- after warming up, loses RPM by 500-1000..... have replaced ignition wires and distributor, checked mass air flow sensor and OK.....

I had a problem on my Nissan Xterra 2000. Symptons sound similar. In my case, it ran fine for a while and then suddenly the engine starts to stumble and lose output. At one point it did not even have enough HP to move. Irregular idling too. Thought it was water in my fuel. Bought water remover from the store and added to gas tank. Problem did not go away. Instead, "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Had to have it towed to the dealer as there was no way the engine could keep up with traffic. Dealer replaced the "Crank Position Sensor" today. Parts $33.00, Labor: $300 (about 3 hrs worth of work). Seems to work fine now but I will wait and see. Dealer also stated that Distributor bearing appears to be noisy and will need to be replaced sooner or later. I will wait for it to go before I fix that.
