Clean all connections very good ( batt post connectors, gound wire from batt to frame/motor, also clean starter connections, and alternator connections) I know pep boys checked but you cannot properly check a battery unless it has a full charge!!!!! If it wont accept a full charge then batt is bad, If it charges to a full charge and fails a draw test the batt is bad. also when a draw test is done you can have the charging system checked also to make sure batt is recieving the proper charge input. all inexpensive checks, get it running and take it to a garage, 3 min test usually not even a charge most of the time. NOT A DEALER, and have them show you what they are doing. if you are a female have a male friend go with you or have it done. I dont care what anybody says!!!!!! When it comes to a inexperienced female, the DEALERSHIP,the REPAIR GARAGES will all try to get some kind of MONEY out of you before you leave their place of business.

Have you tried to shake the shifter? If that works, more than likely it's your neutral relay switch. I say this because I have a 1996 cherokee sport and it did the same thing to me and turns out it was the neutral relay switch. Good luck, I hope you get her running good and take good care of it.

No firing coming through the coil and fuel pump is not working both are related

It suggest checking the fuse and relay to the fuel pump. You might consider changing the coil. on a 6 cyl 4.0 or 4.7 the replacement part at PEP Boys should be E 239 BDW. About $130.00 bucks. Good luck Vicky.

My 1997 chevy lumina will not start it just makes a clicking sound when i tr to turn te key

Sounds as if you have a bad starter. The vehicle running differently when cold is a whole different issue that has nothing to do with the starter. Below is a picture of the starter and its location. You can have someone turn the key as if to start the car while you actually touch the starter. If it is bad you will feel it trying to enguage or click inside. I'm guessing that's the clicking noise you hear. If the vehicle is in a bad location and you need to move it in order to replace the starter, again while someone is turning the key to start the car you can tap on it with a small hammer or something and GM starters are pretty good about loosening up and starting while you are tapping on it. This doesn't fix the problem it just will get you going so you can move it. This "tapping" works about 85 percent of the time on GM starters. Either way if you feel the starter trying to go with somebody turning the key, more than likely you are dealing with a bad starter. Hope this helps.

2001 Ford focus se automatic wont start. Makes clicking noise when you turn the key. Replaced starter and still clicks and doesn't start for awhile. Is it the battery...fuel pump....spark plugs...?

Battery-that should be checked first, remove it and take it to a Pep Boys, Advance or Auto Zone for a load test (free)-99% of the time, it is NOT the starter with your symptoms.

My 2004 pontiac grand prix gt wont start when i went to turn it on this morning to go to work nothing happened it just made a clicking noice. The guy at pep boys said that the battery was good. when i try...

if you turn headlights on and turn key to start do you hear clicking? if so starter is possibly bad, lets trouble shoot your problem.suggest you check the fuses under hood in black box, make sure those are good. when you turn the key, you should hear at least a click or else the starter is not drawing current.try turning the headlights on and at same time turn the key and try to start, if lights go dim the starter is drawing current, does it click? if so then bad starter. if no noise at all,,still could be a bad starter.suggest that you remove the starter and have it checked out.also make sure the car is in park for sure before you do any of this. hope this helps!!

Own a 1999 jeep cherokee sport has a problem when attempting to start while turning the key forward i am hearing a clicking noise from the passenger side fuse panel but the starter and engine do not turn...

The clicking noise you hear is likely the starter relay. (should be identified inside the box cover) You need to check that battery is up to full voltage, terminal connections are clean and secure and that there is 12 volts at the main power lead on the starter and power at the small trigger wire connection at the starter when the key is turned to the start position. If you have that, then very likely the starter needs to be replaced. If not you will need to check wiring and neutral safety switch as well as main fuses in the power distribution center (the box where the clicking relay is, near the battery)

My 08 equinox wont start. It makes a click sound then nothing.

Try checking the starter. There is a purple wire going to the solenoid. When you turn the key on to start you have to have battery voltage at this wire. You can try tapping it with a hammer and sometimes they will start. You have to hit the big body part of the starter not the solenoid.Check your warranty. If you have under 36k miles it is covered under the factory warranty which is 3 yrs.and 36k miles.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Nissan Frontier Starter Problem 2004

Could be your starter, battery or fuel sys. Most common are starter and / or battery. Regarding the battery, make sure your terminals are clean and the battery is securely fastened to them. If you turn the key and absolutely nothing happens then check your battery connections as stated above. If they look good but the battery is old (3-5 years), and still no start - replace battery.

If the starter is the issue, you will hear a distinct, slightly disconcerting sound coming from underneath passenger side area of the engine compartment. This is the sound of the starter trying to engage the engine - but without success. You can take it to any shop and have it replaced for $200-$500 out the door depending on what brand starter you have installed. PEP boys has them for $107.00 plus a $95/hr install fee (the jobs takes about 1 hour).

If your fuel system is the culprit (make sure you're not out of gas first) it is most likely a faulty fuel pump (common) or clogged fuel filter.

Clicking not cranking. Replaced battery at Pep

Why did you replace battery in the first place Before checking out the reason of why it wouldent start???????????.
1st when you turn the key does the starter motor click
2ndTurn on headlights and then try starting ,do the lights go out (yes/no) 3rdThe Alternator only does the charging not the starting
BUT YOU say you can jump it and it will start ???????????????
Well that still puts it down to either the Starter OR the BATTERY is no good unless you have a24 volt system (which you havent)
So check the Red + lead from the battery to Starter motor for good tight fit ,,and the Black -lead to any engine bolt and also to the body (2 wires 1thick 1 thinner Black leads ) good tight fit ,,
The funny hum you can hear would be the fuel pump working and that is in the fueltank But just check under the bonnet and make sure that
its not coming from the alternator as sometimes it get a short inside and will flattern the battery in 3minutes (that also has a Red feed wire going to it.
SO LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GET ON Ron

2006 Jeep Wrangler won't start

First, make sure you can turn the engine by hand. If you can't then the starter can't turn it either. Have someone else turn the key and look for the source of the click...may be a relay. Go over the starting circuit with a volt meter. Check for power at the starter main terminal and then with the key turned to "start" check for power at the trigger terminal on the starter. Check battery voltage and check relay operation.
You have a neutral safety switch on the transmission if its an automatic and a clutch switch if it's a stick. Check them as well. Make sure battery grounding on fender and block are also clean and secure.

Car won't even turn over. Totally quiet.

Funny... I could diagnose this in about ten minutes if I were there!!! But, being here, I'll give you a good guess: likely your starter has gone south... But, make sure that the battery has 12 volts in it, and dosen't just "look OK" Make sure there is power at main lead on starter as well as power at the trigger wire with key turned to start. But you not under there with it unless wheels are blocked and in park.
