My son drained his transmission oil instead of his engine oil. We are adding transmission fluid back but, can not find were the fill plug is. Can you help? 2007 Toyota 4runner.

I'd drain it from the oil pan underneath the car. Fill it back up with engine oil and a can of Seafoam, drive it around for a day or 2 then drain it again. Replace the filter each time also. Think you'll be alright if you didn't do heavy driving with it in your engine.

Normally the transmission fluid off pumped from the side of the engine block. You have to look from the under side of the vehicle. Good luck....

There are two plugs on the bottom of the transmission pan. The one twards the back of the truck is the drain. The one in the middle is the overflow.
Put the truck on a flat surface, take out the plug in the middle (some fluid will drain)
There is a large plug on the passenger side rear of the transmission to fill it with.

I suggest draining all the fluid if your having problems, install your snake oil, then fill the transmission up untill it starts coming out the overflow. cap off both, drive the truck for 10 miles, then check the fluid again by adding more untill it comes out the overflow.

Depends on your engine.

If auto you refill through the auto dipstick, If manual you will find a plug approx 1/3 - 1/2 way up the side of the g/box. The engine oil drain plug will be infront of the gear box (should be a 14 mm bolt) located on the engine sump.

The 1998 Chevy Malibu does not have a transmission dipstick. Instead there is a check plug located on the transaxle, near the pan, adjacent to the engine oil drain plug.

Note: the vehicle must be kept level when checking the transmission fluid level.

Place an oil container under the check plug and remove it. Observe the fluid as it drips into the pan, indicating correct fluid level. The fluid level should be at the bottom of the check hole. Double check to make sure the car is level. If no fluid drips from the check hole, some fluid should be added via the red cap. But add only a little at a time until the fluid is at the bottom of the check hole.

If it was a red colored fluid it was transmission fluid. You need to check that on level ground with the motor running to be sure you get the level correct. Normally you have to pull all of the Pan bolts to drain this but every so often Toyota puts a drain plug on the transmission. Make sure you haven't over filled that.
The engine drain is at the rear of the motor on the bottom. On a side ways mounted engine that is the side toward the firewall and will be a black or brownish color.

The tranny fluid is added through the tranny dipstick (make sure it's not the oil dipstick). Fluid color should be red and the dipstick should have instructions on how to check level (car in park, engine at idle). Funnels are your friend here.

1. NOTE: It will be necessary to hold the drain plug (larger plug) with a wrench when removing the fluid level indicator plug.
   With the transmission in the PARK position and the engine running, use a 3/16 inch Allen key to remove the fluid level indicator plug.
2. Allow the fluid to drain. Wait approximately one minute. When the fluid comes out as a thin stream or a drip, it is at the correct level.
3. If no fluid comes out of the hole, fluid will need to be added. Continue with this procedure.
4. Install the special tool into the pan.

Most automatic transmissions do not have a filler plug or cap. The transmission fluid is added by using a long-neck funnel, which is placed in the tube the dipstick for the transmission sits in. Be sure to test the level while the engine is running, with the transmission in either park or neutral. Be very careful not to over fill the transmission, and make sure that you have the right kind of transmission fluid for your vehicle.
