I can not shift it into gear from park the car is an automatic

I have a 2006 Ford Exployer that intermittently will not release the shift lock. It seems that most the time I can hold the brake pedal down for 5 seconds and it will release. I believe it to be a solenoid problem and have put white litheum grease on the solenoid shaft and brake switch. This improved but did not eliminate the problem.

Is there a source for replacement solenoids and instructions?

I know where to check it but is that where i fill it?

Sounds like a problem with the shift interlock. Here's how it works:You put your foot on the brake pedal, the brake pedal switch sends voltage to a solenoid mounted on your shifter. The solenoid unlocks the shifter, and you remove it from Park. When the interlock doesnt work,it's usually the interlock solenoid mounted on the shifter malfunctioning, however the brake pedal switch,or wires to and from can also be at fault.

There is a small rubber piece behind the brake pedal that usually wears down of breaks that depresses the brake pedal switch, check the switch first, if that is okay then there is also the adjustable rod that is what the button on the auto shifter moves, remove the shifter, see if you can depress the rod manually and shift, if you can shift like that, unscrew the rod slightly to adjust it to a working height. Also, you have a shift lock release button through the small tab to the right of your shifter... a zip tie on the tab will allow you to shift but will not make it possible to "slip" shift or cause any other problems.

"2001 ford escort zx2 will

If it has a manual transmission, check the clutch start switch on the clutch pedal support. If it has an automatic transmission it could be the transmission range sensor mounted on top of the transmission right side of the engine. In either case it could be the ignition switch (this is the switch you put the key in to start the car).

Automatic ford escort 1998 will not shift out of "park"

There is a switch between the brake and the transmission. I forget what its called but unless you have your brake pedal pressed your car will not shift out of park. If you do have your brake pedal pressed there may be something wrong with the sensor.

Manual Transmission fluid for Ford Escort ZX2

I know this sounds crazy according to Ford:

You can use-
Motorcraft MERCON Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX MERCON® Alternative Transaxle Fluid - SAE 75W90 Gear Oil F32Z-19C547-MA API GL-4
You are seeing that right, one instance they call for 75W90 and the other it is ATF. It is ok to run either, 75W90 will give you smoother shifts and less noise.

This transmission is filled through the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) hole.
