I am told the glow plugs heat up in "firing" order, also the Duramax uses a intake air heater to warm the air on cold starts.

The duramax does not have glow plugs just the intake heater. Whats the problem, not starting just cranking? If just cranking and not starting I would bleed the fuel filtre by pumping it with bleed valve open to make sure fuel comming out the bleed shreader valve on fuel rail at front of engine to eliminate air in the fuel system. Even pump fule filtre pump whe pressing shreader valve to ensure no air in fuel rail.t

My 2500 duramax diesel dosent want to start

Does it have diesel?
Could be fuel filter or fuel pump.
Glow plugs?
Injectors? these trucks have been known to have bad injectors.
Possibly the oil pump, the injectors run off the oil pump.

I have a 2006 chevy silverado 2500HD 4x4 6.6 litre duramax deisel and the number 5 cylinder glow plug is bad, I purchased a new glow plug and now I want to make sure that I install it into the number 5...

Actually GM gas engines are 1,3,5,7 on the left and 2,4,6,8 on the right.
The diesel engine is actually just the opposite. 1,3,5,7 are on the right and 2,4,6,8 are on the left

Truck fails to start

The 01 DuraMax trucks do not have a block heater, unless they were special ordered with one. Just turn the key to the on position a few times before you try to crank it, and hold the accelerator partially down while doing it. However, don't hold the accelerator if it starts to crank, it DOES need a minute to warm up before being revved. Also, use a diesel treatment when its cold, it helps a lot.

Where does second thermostat in 2007 Chevy 2500 hd go?

If you have a duramax diesel engine it goes next to the other one. They would both be in the same housing. If you have a Gas engine it will only use 1 t-stat.
Thank You,
