2000 Ford Taurus - Installed a new radio and used the Meta 99-5716 install kit with wiring harness. After install, radio, pwr windows, pwr locks, dome light, windshield wipers, and speedomoter have stopped working. All the wiring with the harness seemed to be pretty straight forward. Why did this happen and what can I do about it??

Sounds like you have blown fuses which could have happened if you accidently short circuted something while wiring up the new stereo. Check your fuses to see if any of them are blown.

Thanks David for your reply. I have checked the fuses and they all seem to be fine, under dash and under hood.

2003 Ford Taurus after market stereo installation

Adding aftermarket radios seldom works like you expect because the radio head and amplifier are connected to, and monitored by the BCM. Safety warnings and door chimes are played by the BCM via the radio system. It was all designed as a seamless unit on a computer network. Phone Crutchfield, they do all the harness kits and will give you good free advice. Or go to a car audio installer, as they have the programming equipment.

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus, just installed a factory stereo/heat control unit back in the car but I have no power to the stereo. What should I check?

I would check the fuses for the radio. One should be in the engine compartment distribution box and there should be another fuse in the interior fuse box. If these fuses are intact and you have a multimeter, I would check the presence of at least 2 pins with + 12 Volt on the radio connector. The pin out diagram can be seen if you do a search for the 2001 Taurus. Good luck, hope this helps.

2000 vw beetle the pwr windows, pwr trunk, pwr fuel door, pwr mirors, dome lights, and radio won't work. I have checked all the fuses and only one was blown, it is # 14 it says interior lights and central...

The easy part of this problem is knowing what it is, the difficult part is finding where it's shorting out. With the meters of wire and harness it would be discouraging thinking about it. Knowing VW took a lot of time engineering to avoid this simple problems, there are conditions that couldn't prevent this.

First off, have you recently installed an aftermarket part that hooks up to the wiring system e.g. radio, gauges, gps or other electronic accessory? Something added that needed a harness moved to make it fit or needed splicing a wire to power it up?

There are times when doing electrical work, the person doing it doesn't realize while stripping insulation from new wire that a strand of wire fell in a switch, fuse terminal causing a short in it's circuit.
You'd need to clean the fuse area with a clean paint brush to dust off any metal debris. Another way is by simply using a digital VOM with continuity tone to single out which component is causing it to blow the fuse.

Another suggestion is use a VAG 1552 scan tool or equivalent. This will also help pinpoint which component to look at and narrow the search area.

If you're a DIY kind of person and want to know how your vehicle works, wanting to get a little more involved. You'll need a Windows based laptop and purchase a ROSS-Tech software by clicking on the address.

Can not find where to plug CD player to the harness

does the radio have cd changer controlls? if so you may find the wires in the trunk if not you will have to buy a harness from ford and make sure the cd changer will work with the stock radio. Call the local ford dealer parts dep but make sure you have the vin number from the car with that they can look up the car and tell you what options where installed from the factory and can order the correct cable
