My vw passat 1.8T 2001 model started giving a loud rev but not moving as it should. After a while I started perceiving a strong odour in the car like oil was burning . Then I stopped the car and opened the hood to check what was wrong. I noticed oil had spilled all over the engine and smelt like burning ATF. I also got fault code p0741. Please help. Thanks

Check the transmission cooling lines that go to the radiator. It seems like one may have come loose or split/ruptured, spraying ATF through the engine compartment, and when the fluid got low in the transmission triggered the P0741 code (torque converter clutch circuit).

I would check the oil pressure sensor and the oil pump itself. You can take the sensor out and use a mechanical gauge to check the oil pressure. If the oil pressure is within specs, you need a new sensor, if not, you need a new pump.

The oil in the spark plug may cause the car to run sluggish. The oil may prevent the spark plug from firing correctly or cause you to burn oil. You may want to replace the oil seals around the spark plug holes by removing the valve cover and you should be able to change the oil seals underneath the cover. While at it check the engine for loose wire connections and loose vacuum hoses.

use a long flat tip screw driver and a small hammer. have someone pull up on the hood after you pop it from the inside, then while they are holding the hood up use the screw driver and shove the hook that is above the latch bar. when you hit it you will be hitting it to the right

2001 VW Passat AUG Oil Pump replacement - how to get around support beam

Best thing to do is to undo the engine mounts and lift the engine up. You can use an ond seat belt and a strong peice of wood that will fit accross the engine bay. You can use a tie-down ratchet as well to lift up the engine as it will make things easier. then you'll have more room to remove the pan. Cheers.

2001 VW Passat leakin water

I would highly suggest a pressure test to really pin point this leak. I can tell from diagram that the coolant expansion tank line goes right thru that area. I would also caution you to the obvious with this vehicle- everything is a tight fit and coolant leaking from the t-stat housing and or water pump could look similiar. I strongly suggest a pressure test to keep from throwing good money away.
