My 1998 Mercury Villager, is not getting heat and the temp display does not move at all. I have looked and I cannot figure out where the the thermostat is located on this engine. Please advise. It is winter and it is too cold to go through this. It does eventually get warm air to the heater but does not maintain constantly. Other than this problem there is not problem with the vehicle. It is a dialy driver Thank You for your time. Jim

The thermostat is located on the end of the upper radiator hose where it attaches to the engine. Most likely the t-stat is not closing and will not allow the engine to get to operating temperature. Replacing the t-stat should fix this problem.

If you follow top radiator hose back to the engine it's attached to a small housing. Beneath that housing is your thermostat. You'll need a new thermostat, gasket and coolant. Make sure you get a 192 or 195 degree thermostat. Any good parts store will be able to handle your needs

did you drain coolant? If yes, you have trapped air.

Also, check the cable or wiring going to hot water valve on passenger side in one of the 2 heater hoses going into cowl.

No heat. engine dose not over heat

Make sure that the water level is up, then if that is ok, take the radiator cap off when cold, squeeze the hose going into the thermostat. If water moves freely back and forth upon squeezing the inlet and the outlet hose, change the thermostat.

Air conditioner works heat does not in 1998 mercury villager van--options as fixes?

could be as simple as a plugged heater core? how does you antifreeze look? how are the hoses going to the firewall? they look okay? also, could be as simple as the mechanical lever connecting to the coolant line coming loose and not allowing the hot coolant to pass? you may have to take apart some of you dash to try and see this.

good luck, hope this gives you a basis to start looking

disconnect the fuel filter at both ends to see if the filter is clogged. If you are not getting any fuel on either end then you should get a new fuel pump.

No heat in my villager

you have air trapped in the engine. very common. park van uphill, fill radiator & reservoir, turn on heater, leave cap loose. wait for engine to warm up to burp air.
