You need to determine where the leak is originating. The possbilities are:
1. Leaking from the power steering pump.
2. Leaking from the high pressure hose at the steering rack
3. Leaking from the return hose at the steering rack
4. Leaking from the steering rack boot(s).
Once you find the leak source, replace that component.
power steering pump might be bad or low on fluid or you have a broken control arm under your vehichle you will need to look under your vehichle to see whats wrong or broken,do not try to drive it that way,you could also have a broken ball joint
It's on the passenger side of the engine. If our standing in front of the car it is just in front of the power steering pump and right above the a/c compressure. It hhas a smooth pulley.
Hey man a power steering pump is not to bad to replace.First you will need to remove the belt from the pump. Then you want to disconnect the hoses going to the pump. Normally one is what you call a banjo bolt with a copper crush washer, the new pump should come with one.. I suggest having a drain pan handy it will leak some fluid. After you have all the hoses off the pump then unbolt it from its mounts on the engine and remove the pump. You will need to transfer the pulley from the old pump onto the new one. Then reinstall the pump. After it is back in place and the hoses are hooked up you will need to bleed the system. There should be a small bleeder valve on the pump. Fill the fluid to full line open the bleeder a little and start your car then turn your steering wheel lock to lock left to right and that should remove all the air from the system. I would suggest having a friend help you for this just to make it easier. note while turning the steering wheel watch the bleeder when fluid starts coming out clear with out air bubbles your done and can close the bleeder. Also do NOT over tighten the the hose bolts they are not hard to strip the threads out of and then your pump is no good.I suggest looking up the torque specs. Hope this helps
It's a bit difficult to do with out making a mess, you need to loosen the power steering hose and let the fluid run out, Then tighten it and refill the fluid, you will only be able to change about 90% of the fluid.
Some garages have electric pump systems that can completely change the fluid but this can be expensive depending on the garage.
Its pretty self explanatory, undo the lines, remove the belt, remove the pulley, remove the bolts from behind the pulley and any that are on the back side of the pump.
The hard part is removing the pulley, its pressed on.
There is a special tool for removing power steering pump pullies. The tool hooks onto the lip that is on the front of the pulley and a bolt screws into it and the pumps shaft. Then you turn the large nut that is on the tool.
The tool can cost at least an hours shop labor (depending on labor rates)
your power steering belt might be loose or may have stretched due to weather related issues, or may have the adjustment worked loose. suggest you adjust the tension on the belt[power steering belt] youneed to have it tightened. you may even need a replacement pump. is it leaking fluid onto the ground? if so, it may be a loose hose or a busted hose. if you are mechanically inclined, please repost with specifics on if it's leaking fluid or belt is squealing? otherwise,i suggest you have it looked at from a professional. hope this helps and if you need further assistance with replacement of power steering pump, or directions of the belt tension, just ask. we will be happy to assist!
