Swapping a 2.2 L MPI engine and gearbox from a Steed 5 into a 4x4 2.0 L VGT body is a complex task. The engines likely have differences in size, type, and transmission compatibility. Engine swaps often involve modifications to engine mounts, transmission connections, and electronic systems. Consult a professional mechanic or the manufacturer for a detailed assessment of compatibility and necessary modifications before attempting such a swap.
Are you talking about swapping the entire Diff assembly? If you are you will need to measure several things like axle width, suspension mounting positions and check to see if all the suspension mounting points match. If it bolts to the Diff it MUST line up.
Unless you have cracked or damaged the outer housing most Diffs can be completely stripped down and overhauled. You might be able to rescue the one you have.
You can't. The good thing about the older Computers was that you get one and swap the eeproms and your car would run. And if we were back in the 90's, A dealer could reprogram it if the eeproms didn't match. Most likely just replaced the chip. That's what I did. found a compatible computer and swapped the eeprom chip.
Hi Mathew, The 89 Corolla usually has front wheel drive and a combined gearbox and differential. If the box is a manual it uses a 65 w 70 HP oil. If it is automatic it uses ATF in the gearbox which is usually also combined, but some have separate diffs and use the 65 w 70 in the diff section. Regards John
i would just swap the doors, lots easier than taking the door apart, removing your window motor, regulator etc, and then having to install the window crank, replace door panels etc. Me? id just swap the whole door, 6 bolts out, 6 bolts in and your done! ( per door)
Your rear diff has a different ratio gear in it. Find out what ratio gear your car came with, remove your diff gear, and replace with same ratio that it came with from factory, that will fixya.
since you really don't have that much cash and it takes a lot of experience to rebuild a rear end along with special tools swapping the whole axle is your best bet, just keep whichever parts are the best ie brake shoes drums etc
can be done with a 4 to 5 wheel spacer or u will have to locate 5 hole hubs and axles that are compatible to ur car call or visit salvage yards and ask what other vehicles[parts] are compatible with the 5 lug set up u want that can be swapped to ur application also some speed shops and a few auto stores carry change over parts
yes you will have to change the computer. the rear diff wont have to be changed if the front diff has the same gear ratio.the entire front end suspension will need removed so tha you can mount the four wheel drive differential this most likely will require custom modifications. and the whole process will be very time consuming and expensive
