Ok. I have a 2003 mitsubishi Galant. It has recently started having some trouble starting. It starts fine the first time, always. And runs fine. And if it isn't driven much it will start fine the second time. But after that it won't start at all. Unless you let it sit for a couple hours. The car turns over but won't actually catch and start. I took it to advance auto and the battery and alternator were fine. They also put it on the computer and the only code it showed was for the O2 sensor and the guy said he didn't think mine was bad. I guess my next move is to take it to a mechanic and have them hook it up to the better computer. Any thoughts on what it might be or suggestions on what to check?

When the car fails to start have a can of spray starting fluid handy, spray it into the engine's air intake and see if it starts and dies out, if so then you have fuel pressure problems, the most common cause of this type of scenario is a faulty fuel pump, the pump is located in the fuel tank the tank must be removed to replace the fuel pump. Rarely the problem is electrical like the fuel pump relay sticking closed.

SOURCE: 2002 mitsubishi galant;which code would it be for

well thats a good question. the sensor may be ok and your engine is running lean, or the sensor is bad............its possible that its bad, but I would want it checked by a qualified repair shop first, you dont want to replace parts because you THINK they are bad, that just costs you even more money. The upstream is located in the bottom of the exhaust manifold. if its lean found out why..... vac leak?

SOURCE: my 2000 mitsubishi galant 2.4 liter will start and

It is not an O2 sensor. something is shutting down the spark or the fuel, i would exhaust all possibilities with fuel starvation first. have the fuel pressure tested before you go and replace the fuel pump.

SOURCE: The battery keeps going dead on 1999 Mitsubishi

There is an alternator fuse located on the positive battery clamp or in the fuse block under the hood. if it is part of the positive battery clamp it is a dealer only part and will run $10 to 20 dollars. If it is in the fuse block you should be able to get one at the auto store and modify it to slide in easily. Get a flash light and check all of your fuses carefully. The blown fuse may be hard to spot. The design of the car lets the battery go dead with out even turning on the charge light on the dash to let you know you are not charging the battery.

SOURCE: After starting car check engine

Diagnosis must begin with scanning your Engine Control Module to find out why it has turned the light on. The car may seem to be running OK, but there is probably a problem that is causing you to use excessive fuel and/or is threatening to destroy some high dollar parts like your catalytic converter.

1999 MITSUBISHI GALANT,ONLY STARTS WHEN YOU JUMP THE BATTERY, THEN RUNS FINE, BUT WHEN YOU TURN THE CAR OFF IT WILL NOT START AGAN, LIKE THE BATTERY IS DEAD, BUT WILL START IF YOU JUMP THE BATTERY AGAN

Hello,
Most likely, your problem is your altenator and/or your battery. If possible take your car to the closest auto parts store and they should be able to test it for free.
ie: Autozone, Advance Auto, or Pep boys..

2002 mitsubishi galant runs fine 15 min. wont start wait 20min it will start

As with any no start issue, you will need to figure out if you are dealing with a no spark or no fuel pressure problem to proceed.
I would check those things the next time it will not start.
Could be a relay, coil, sensor, or other component.

My 2003 Mitsubishi Galant (V6) started to hesitate and die. It starts back up fine and will die again when I let off the gas or stop. It will run fine for a couple of months (and a few tanks of gas) and...

It is your idle air control (IAC) motor. Its located on the bottom of the throttlebody. All you need to do to change it out is remove the air intake hose from the throttlebody, unplug the connector and remove 3 screws. But the part isn't cheap. I would suggest finding on online because at a local parts store it will be around $250

'97 Mitsubishi Galant starts when jumped, runs fine to destination, won't start again unless jumped. Ideas?

You have a bad battery or bad connections to your battery. Try to charge the battery first. If the problem still occurs then replace the battery. It should be ok after this. good luck.

Your timing belt might have busted. Mine did that in November of 2007.... I had to replace 2 of the 4 cylinders, along with the timing belt and housing. Total cost was a little over $1700.00
