P1401 Differential presure feedback EGR circuit high input

Disconnected and plugged vacuum line from EGR valve. Truck ran better. Put length of hose on EGR valve, turned up 2000 RPM and applied small amount of vacuum (by mouth) and engine started to stall. This would seem to indicate that the EGR valve is working and passages are clear.

Truck seems to run just a little rough. Cleared trouble code. Will see what happens next.

See CHILTONS auto repair guide books, they should have the codes defined in there -- located at your local library - - you may want to call ahead to confirm your year, make model vehicle is included in their books and available (ie not stolen or out).

2001 ford crown victoria 4.6L engine with codes p1288 and p1401

The 1401 code is for a DPFE switch or connector that is not sending the correct signal the PCM expects. The 1288 code is for a temperature sensor which may be showing a higher cylinder head temperature due to low coolant levels, blockage of water flow or bad thermostat.

The DPFE gives readings of the mix of exhaust gas returning into the intake manifold to be burned again to lower emissions.

The combination of these 2 codes can mean that too much exhaust gas is too frequently going into the intake manifold and is overheating the cylinder head causing the 1288 code. So fixing the DPFE may eliminate this secondary error which may reset itself after the first problem is fixed.

1401 egr code

P1401 FORD - DPFE Sensor Circuit High
Faulty Differential Pressure Feedback Electronic (DPFE) sensor
- Differential Pressure Feedback Electronic (DPFE) sensor harness is open or shorted
- Differential Pressure Feedback Electronic (DPFE) sensor circuit poor electrical connection. This is not likely the EGR but the EGR pressure sensing valve.

1405/405 error code for ford ranger 1996

P1405 is an EGR code this can be caused by a bad EGR valve and vaccum selonoid and or a bad DPFE sensor and blocked or melted hoses going to the DPFE.I usally remove the EGR Valve and using a hand held vaccum pump ck the Valve to see if it opens correctly if it is then ck the DPFE hoses if they are ok . Now if the EGR valve is bad You need to replace the DPFE and the Selonoid and the valve because the Valve not working burns them up internally. If the Valve is good first replace the selonoid ... its the cheapiest .... if that doesn't fix it replace the DPFE and the hoses going to it . If you know some one with a good Scan tool it may have a EGR self test prcedure built in like mine does and makes this easier but if not i have told you how with out a scanner

What re smog codes 1285 and 1401

a po 1401 code is a egr code (code reads) DPFE sensor curcuit high voltage.most cases, i replace the DPFE sensor. this sensor is located on the side of the intake manifold .it has two vacuum lines going to the exhaust system ,or pipe. and it will have a gray plug going to it.this sensor is about 1/ 1/2 to 2inches wide and maybe and inch tall and a 1/2 inch thick. it takes a 7mm socket to remove. and all parts stores carry these for 40 50 bucks. good luck! and i would clear codes and see if both codes go away.

Replaced plugs and wires 2002 ford explorer idles good even in drive or reverese tranmission sputters while driving at low rpms or in overdrive po code 1401 has been on since 42k now 108k

code 1401 means your dpfe or delta pressure feedback to your egr valve is defective and needs to be replaced. I would suggest you clean or replace your egr valve as well with throttle body cleaner. A defective dpfe can cause your vehicle to run lean and when near failure is certain, it will cause your vehicle to stumble.

97 isuzu rodeo, check engine light with po401 code changed egr valve without success, was looking at evap, and now wondering about dpfe sensor, info is good

DPFE is a reasonable concern. There is also a very thin tube from the EGR to the DPFE that plugs up with carbon. Check the tube prior to the DPFE.

How do i fix a p 1401 code, what parts i need to change?

Hi,

This error is due to bad DPFE (delta pressure feedback) sensor. This sensor is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

Once replaced, would fix the issue.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Check engine light with code p1401

Recirculation (EGR) valve codes. The Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) sensors on these vehicles have a high failure rate. Ford now uses a redesigned DPFE sensor. In effect, since the failure rate is so high, if you get this code, replace the sensor and retest. When the DPFE Sensor starts failing, it gives the PCM bad information. The DPFE Sensor is less sensitive, and the PCM thinks less recirculated gas is being burned than is actually so. Trying to compensate, the PCM opens up the actuator too much. This excessive amount of EGR combined with the air coming in via the throttle body leans out the fuel mixture, causing a lean misfire, which is the "stumble" or "hesitation" that is common as the DPFE Sensor fails. The DPFE sensor in the Focus is not very robust, requiring frequent (every 30k miles or sometimes less) replacement or a work around. Note that complete DPFE sensor failure is a very slow process, and the check engine light won't come on until the DPFE sensor is pretty much done for. If you're experencing stumble or hesitation while cruising, and think that it might be related to DPFE sensor failure. If the stumble goes away, then your DPFE sensor is more than likely failing. Of course, replacement of the bad DPFE sensor is the official recommended fix for this problem.

I am having trouble getting my check light to go off after I had it checked and the EGR valve was replaced. The light comes back on after about 15 miles of driving and the code reads EGR poor flow. I can...

Insufficient EGR Flow Detected

Possible Causes:
DPFE sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground
DPFE sensor VREF circuit is open between sensor and PCM
DPFE sensor downstream hose off or plugged
DPFE sensor hoses both off, loose or damaged
DPFE sensor hoses connected wrong (reversed)
EGR orifice tube is damaged or restricted
PCM has failed
And what sets the code is…….Engine started, engine running in closed loop under steady cruise conditions, and the PCM detected the DPFE sensor input indicated insufficient EGR gas flow. Run the KOER Self-Test, and if DTC P1408 is present, the fault is currently present. This code sets in 2 Trip(s). The light will stay on until the cause is repaired. A bad EGR valve is only on possible cause.

Hope this helps,

Dave
