MINI COOPER AIRBAG R50 AND R56

HELLO ,
I have changed myself my old Mini Cooper steering wheel with a new R56 leather 3 spoke wheel with a new airbag.
Unfortunately new airbag has one socket and the car has 2 sockets, Wires to both are white and Brown.
I tried only the one socket and then also paralle but in both cases the AIRBAG LIGHT remains on .
Is there any solution , as I like this new steering wheel very much !
thank you
Stelios

If you have a Mini that was buit pre 2006 i.e. a first gen Mini then your new steering wheel will not fit, you need to buy a 1st gen Mini 3 spoke steering wheel.

Akso, for issues regarding the airbag light DO NOT pay the dealer silly amounts of money to solve the problem. Please visit the following thread http://www.mini2.com/forum/first-generation-faults-fixes/130947-airbag-warning-light-petition-bmw-uk.html

I think those guys at knutz are ridiculous they have part changershey came be repaired they just won't give you that option. T working there. So much for actually sending the unit off for repair. It is not green to just replace parts. There are reputable companies that diagnose repair or rebuild these computers for minis they just won't tell you this. Google DME repair for MINI cooper or BMW Florida has a couple of places. Hope this helps. I took my car there with Air Bag light and they wanted $4000.00 to repair.

Hey Guys,

I have an 02 Mini. The airbag sign just came on in the last two weeks and Knauz Mini in Lake Forest, IL are charging $1200 to fix the problem. It only has 49k miles on it and I can't afford to spend that kinda money to fix a light. The dealer reported that I need to have the MRS (Mutliple Restraint System) control module replaced.

Does anyone have a cheaper solution? Any suggestions/resolutions will be highly appreciated.

Regards

I have no answer, but I'm appalled you would give up your two-spoke for the three-spoke!

Is it possible to mix up the wire for the airbag sensor with the flat tyre indicator sensor

possible not probable as the connectors are different, have tire checked and if OK take car back and have the TP problem fixed at not charge.

I have a 2003 mini cooper R50, I have bought a replacement electro hydraulic power steering pump since the old one died. I noticed that the wiring that is connected to the power steering unit is burnt and...

You need to goto a good parts store or the Cooper dealer and simply buy the new Pigtail Connector for that particular unit. It will give you a new plug, and the wires long enough for you to splice to the old wires and be on your way.

What is the difference between a r50 and r53 mini

R50 is the designation that BMW use for the hardtop (i.e. not the convertible) hatchback version of the Mini One and Mini Cooper produced from 2001-2006, and including the special edition versions called 'Mini Seven' and 'Park Lane', and also the Mini One D (the diesel version) from 2004-2006.
R53 is the designation used for the Mini Cooper S (a supercharged version with 170 bhp) from 2002-2006, and also the special edition versions which were called the 'MC40' (2004), 'Cooper S works' (2005 on), the 'Mini GP' (2006) and the 'Cooper S checkmate' (2006)

2003 mini cooper airbag light is always on.

unfortunately the only way to find out what is wrong is to go to the dealer and have them pull codes. there is a bulletin that is for the front seat airbag wiring that covers cars 10 years or 100,000 if this is the problem then costs are covered and you should not pay a penny.
