Renault clio 1.2 extreme problems

Hi,my 2002 clio has developed a few faults.it will suddenly whilst driving go into limp mode (reduced power)and the coil type light comes on.if i turn the key on and off,it clears.the key doesnt always lock the car either.then eventually it wont start atall.reseting the codes fix's it temporarily.i was told about the box on the back of the head(it is loose)but i cannot work out how to remove it easliy!! perhaps the wires have chaffed.any ideas?? help regards deane culver MY RENAULT CLIO 1.2 16V 2001 HAS BEEN A PAIN FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS! HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH IT AND THE SAME IS HAPPENING AT MOMENT AS IT IS WITH YOURS! FIRST, TRY A NEW BATTERY IN YOUR KEY FOB AND THAT SHOULD SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM OF STARTING IT AS LONG AS THE IMMOBILISER LED ISN'T FLASHING ON DASH IT WILL ONLY START ONCE THE LIGHT STAYS ON. AND IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR THROTTLE BODY MIGHT HAVE A FAULT SO I SUGGEST TO TAKE IT TO A GARAGE (doesn't have to be a renault garage) AND THEY WILL FIX IT BECAUSE IF YOU LEAVE IT IT WILL GET ALOT WORSE, ESPECIALLY IF ITS ANYTHING LIKE MINE! I LEFT MINE AND ENDED UP NEEDING A NEW STARTER MOTOR, TIMING BELT ETC...... OH AND THE COIL LIGHT ON YOUR DASH MEANS ENGINE MANAGEMENT. HAVE YOU BEEN THROUGH ANY WATER RECENTLY? I DID THE OTHER WEEK AND MY CAR JUST DIED ON ME AND THAT LIGHT KEPT COMING ON THEN GOING OFF AFTER SWITCHING KEY OFF! BUT AFTER SPRAYING ENGINE WITH WD40 AND LEAVING IT A COUPLE OF HOURS IT DRIED OUT AND WENT BACK TO NORMAL!! GOOD LUCK, IM GOING TO SEE IF MINE WORKS YET, HAD 2 DAYS OFF WORK COS CAR WONT START!! I HATE RENAULT!! LET ME KNOW OUTCOME THANKS LEANNE

I have the same problem. Renault dealers point in this and then that direction. I am beginning to think that this is a factory fault which they will never admit. One thing is for sure. I will never buy any model of Renault again and will tell everyone I know that Renault = Problems.

Hello, Gosh my 51 reg renault does exactly the same! Took it to a garage had the throttle body replaced with a genuine renault part but went again few months later - this time the car would not start - relays corroded. Had the throttle body replaced under warranty (Jan 08) but then it went again - this time told by renault that a Wiring loom needed replacing - £150 +VAT & labour. Last week went again - i'm beginning to think that this car will never be fixed. Renault wanted to charge £300 to fix but told them we had had all this work done previously and they came back and said it was a faulty connection. Tonight (05th Sept 08) as i type this my husband is waiting for the AA to tow him to renault as it has, yes you've guessed it happened again!!!!!!! This is rediculous, does no-one at renault know how to fix this??!!

Hi, i have the same problem regarding the throttle body, and cutting out every time i stopped. I recently discovered were the throttle body was hidden in the engine. I removed it and cleaned it thoroughly, noticing a large build up of dirt and carbon which was preventing the car from breathing properly. i put the engine back together and cleared fault codes and the car has been running fine for nearly two weeks now. This may not be a permanent fix but it does help the people who like me couldnt afford the new throttle body. Any questions please dont hesitate to ask.

Hope it Helps

you may have been put literally offtrack. Check the crank sensor (TDC) and make sure this is working fine. I recommend getting it checked at an autorised service centre.

Try pressing the D3 button on your gear shift - little button below the main one. D3 allows for quick acceleration, but the light also shows when the car is locked is gear ('limp home mode') due to another problem.
