It has this problem at Idle? If this problem is while the vehicle is moving but not at Idle or when you rev the motor check your A frame, Connecting Rods, Tie Rods and Ball joints. You also want to check to loose lug nuts or a bent rim. If it occurs when it sits at idle check the motor mounts and bushings and the transmission mounts and bushings.
If the idle speed drops to a low enough point when the oil is hot, then the oil pressure light will come on because the oil pump, which is driven by the engine, is not turning fast enough to maintain proper pressure. You'll need to find out why the idle is dropping and almost dying. It could be a bad IAC valve, dirty throttle valve or something like a vacuum leak. It would be helpful if you had a scan tool to monitor IAC (idle air control valve) counts as this is happening as it would help you find the cause. This may be a job for a shop, but don't let them sell you an oil pump until the low idle problem is fixed.
sounds like the idle is set way too low on it.. there should be an idle screw on the trottle body.. just turn ut clock wise and it will slowly increase the idle rpm. make sure you do it in park though with the vehicle running. once it reaches 750 to 900 rpm stop and try it then it should stop dying..
You problem could be one of two thing a charging problem or a battery dying. yes you can get the voltage but not get the amperage to charge a battery. Do the lights dim at idle and brighten as you accelerate? Does the car continue to run but the battery goes down after sitting for a while? DO NOT DISCONNECT THE battery cables with the vehicle running as this can result in damage to the charging and other systems. Here are things i look for (1) does the car start on it owns without a jump? (2) does the vehicle idle smooth? A dying battery uses more charging load on the alternator and can result in rough idle and poor performance and gas mileage. (3) this is an odd one but but has helped int he past, does the battery smell like rotten eggs? When a battery is dying it can stink when it is getting a charge from the alternator. To be sure go to your local auto parts store for a free battery and charging check. Takes few minutes and no cost. Hope this helps.
These CIS vehicle are tempermental. Best thing to do is change the air filter, clean air flow sensor plate(Spray gunout on a rag and lightly clean it ) Gun out throttle body and a slight idle adjustment. Finallyonce a month put some fuel injection cleaner in the tank. See how this works before we start testing items.
ck to see if your throttle body is dirty. Buy a can of berrymans b12 carb cleaner (spray) and grab a friend. Take off air intake and expose throttle body. Have your friend start the engine and throttle up to 2000/3000 rpm and spray cleaner all arround throttle body while running. It will run like **** while you empty 1/2 to 3/4 of the spray into throttle body. Turn off and disconnect battery for at least 5 min to reset computer. reconnect and presto good rpm's no more slow idle and dying.
provided you don't have a vacuum leak, (check all hoses for tightness and cracks with engine running) it's probably your idle air control valve or sensor.
I'd be looking at the idle air control valve on side of throttle body. It regulates idle under load conditions such as when turning, AC on, heater etc, brakes applied etc, & steps idle up to maintain proper idle. When this goes faulty it lots of times doesn't send a code. You may get away with just pulling it off and cleaning plunger & port it comes out of with throttle body spray cleaner,It's worth a try before you replace.
I had the same problem when I did battery maintenance on my 1988 Montero Sport. The problem was explained to me, that the car's electronic pollution control computer data was erased when the battery is disconnected or the battery totally discharges. The car's computer uses this data to regulate idle speed and other engine factors. The solution given to me was to recheck the battery connections (make sure they are clean, and tighten down), start the vehicle, and just let it sit and idle for about 15 - 20 minutes (without racing the engine or driving the vehicle). This will rebuild and repopulate the car's computer engine data it needs to make adjustments. Hope this helps. Mark.
