Hello I have an 02 gmc and when I turn on the heat or the air I get nothing. I don't even hear the blower kick on. Before I lost all functions It use to blow out ice cold air just no heat. Any thoughts?...

The blower resistor is the most common thing to fail on these. Mounted under the dash on the passenger side, behind the blower. As far as no heat, It could be the heater core, the blend door motor, or the controller. My guess on that would be the blend door motor. It is located in the middle of the dash, just under the radio. If you have a center console, you may be able to get to it from the side.

Heat not working

Sounds like the air blend door is not opening to let heat in.

Engine coolant is provided to the heater system by two 16 mm (5/8 inch inside diameter) heater hoses. With the engine idling at normal running temperature, set the heater-A/C controls as follows. Temperature control to full Heat, Mode control to Floor, Blower control to the highest speed setting. Using a test thermometer, check the air temperature coming from the center floor outlets and compare this reading to the Temperature Reference table.

If the floor outlet air temperature is insufficient, check that the cooling system is operating to specifications. Both heater hoses should be HOT to the touch (the coolant return hose should be slightly cooler than the supply hose). If the coolant return hose is much cooler than the supply hose, locate and repair the engine coolant flow obstruction in heater system.

POSSIBLE LOCATIONS OR CAUSE OF OBSTRUCTED COOLANT FLOW
If coolant flow is verified and the heater floor outlet temperature is insufficient, a mechanical problem may exist.

POSSIBLE LOCATION OR CAUSE OF INSUFFICIENT HEAT
  • Obstructed cowl air intake.
  • Obstructed heater system outlets.
  • Blend-air door not functioning properly.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
If heater floor outlet temperature cannot be adjusted with the heater-A/C control temperature control lever, one of the following could require service:

How to kno if I need blend door? No heat or cool. If I turn on fan I hear a squeal under the hood.

When you turn on fan,is air coming out of vents normal but not getting hot or cold.If no air is coming out, then blend door is shut, causing air to back up and maybe cause that noise, here are 2 links on how to replace blend door and blower motor, join the A.Z.site,at top right hand corner of page,it's so free, then you can use their repairs like me.I just had my evaporator replaced,it was clogged up,a mouse made a home in the box that holds it,air is suppose to go thru it,but it backed up and made a noise, had midas repair, cause freon had to be removed to replace part,it's located next to blower, your blend door flap is probably broken, just stays closed.

NO HEAT STUCK ON AC HEAR CLICKING IN CENTER CONSOLE

Air Temperature Control Blend Door Failure No Heat or no AC (dependes on where door sticks)

In all modern cars there is a tiny DC electric motor driven gear drive that moves a plastic door that blends heated and cooled air from the AC and the heater core, this is called (interestedly enough) the air temperature control blend door actuator. The motor that moves this door fails because the door starts sticking from warping, most common complaint is no heat but it can be no AC as well. To replace these parts (blend door and blend door actuator) you must remove the entire dash from the car. Always have this problem confirmed by a dealer or qualified repair shop as it is a very expensive repair.

Other causes of no heat in the cabin are engine thermostats that are stuck open (engine runs cold) or air bubbles in the cooling system.

My heat works great in the front but the rear vents only blow cold

The blend door actuator is located in the left rear quater panel. It's right there when you remove the trim panel (left side rear) Below is a picture of it when panel is removed along with another picture of the air duct system. I also gave you a picture of the connector at the actuator. Make sure you are geting power and test opening and closing. Worst case you could make the blend door stay to where you are geting heat until you can repair the problem...11_6_2012_12_34_03_am.jpg11_6_2012_12_34_21_am.jpg11_6_2012_12_34_35_am.jpg11_6_2012_12_34_48_am.jpg

Heater not working properly, a/c puts out heat sometimes, but regular heater doesn't.

check your blend door, center of the dash at the bottom remove black cover, its above the white stepping motor, the motor turns the door with temp selection, when the door breaks you have no control over temp selection, check the stepping motor (white square box), by removing it and plug it in, and turn the temp knob does the motor turn, if not verify power in the plug and replace motor, if so use an inspection mirror and look at the bottom of the blend door (where motor mounts) see if it is broken. If the door itself is broken, this is a large repair, you will have to remove the entire dash from left to right to access the environmental station which is where the blend door is located. Hope this helps, let me know

96 LINCOLN TOWNCAR STUCK ON HEAT ONLY !

The heater and a/c blend door actuator motor is located behind the center of the dash just below the windshield. The steering column must be detached and lowered and the dash must be removed to access the blend door motor.
