You have civic SI type R with the K20A engine and 6sp transmission? correct?

yes the clutch is adjustable.

  1. loosen the clutch pedal position switch(lower of the 2 switches) locknut and back off the clutch pedal position switch.
  2. loosen the clutch push-rod locknut and turn the push-rod in or out to get the desired height and stroke of the pedal.
  3. tighten the push-rod locknut
  4. with the clutch pedal released, turn the clutch pedal position switch in until it contacts the clutch pedal.
  5. turn the clutch pedal position switch in an additional 3/4 to 1 turn.
  6. tighten the clutch pedal position switch locknut.
  7. loosen the clutch interlock switch(the upper switch) locknut and then the interlock switch.
  8. press the clutch pedal to the floor.
  9. release the pedal about 1/2 in. from the fully depressed position, and hold it there. adjust the position of the interlock switch so that the engine will start with the clutch pedal in this position.
  10. tighten the interlock switch locknut.
clutch pedal stroke should be: 5.1 - 5.5 in
clutch pedal height should be: 7.76 in

if adjusting the clutch doesn't help with the transmission feeling notchy, may be the syncros.

Hi there I have a ford mondeo mk3 2.0 tdci 6 speed box, I have had a problem selecting reverse it will not engage, 1 to 6 engage but a little notchy. Was wondering if it is the clutch or the gearbox, it...

not the gear box but a problem clutch system where the clutch is dragging
check for fluid levels and bleed the system
At that mileage replacement clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder would be in order
st gear is syncro operation but reverse is spur gears and that is why there is a problem as the cluster shaft is not stopping completely

2008 citroen c5 when it is cold gear changes normal but when it is running on the road get difficult to change

Hi Haresh, It help to know if we're talking about automatic or manual? If it is the the select without clutch it would be a good idea to check the fluid levels. For auto or semi auto have the filter replaced inside the gearbox. If it is manual, have the clutch adjustment checked. Regards John

Manual clutch not working effeciently

If the car has a few miles on it, the clutch may be worn. To test this, put the gearbox in 3rd and let the clutch out slowly while pressing the brake hard. The engine should stall immediately. If it runs on a bit before stalling, the clutch is worn.

At the other extreme, if the clutch is not releasing fully, which causes crunching of the gears, either the clutch hydraulic line needs bleeding, or the clutch cable needs adjusting up, whichever type it is.

How do I adjust clutch cable on 1986 vw gti?

The cable attaches to the front top of the gearbox. You will see a large white or black plastic disc with ridges on the back. This is the adjuster. There is a locking nut above the adjusting disc that you have to unscrew a bit. Then turn the adjusting disc clockwise to get the cable tighter. Because of the large amount of non-original cables(and therefore sometimes incorrect length), if you get to the end of adjustment and still do not have sufficient clutch release, You can use disc washers inserted between the guide sleeve and adjusting disc. You should only do this with a new cable if you cannot find the correct length cable. If an old cable does not respond to adjustment it is stretched and needs replacing. You can however still get a few extra miles out of the cable by using the washers. It's your budget, so you have the final say.
1- Lock nut
2- Adjusting disc
3-Washers(Definately not standard)
4- Guide sleeve
5- Gearbox

2000 A4: notchy gear change when the engine is hot

Check the gearbox oil - has this been changed (with the wrong grade) just before the problem started ? May also be too little oil, from a small leak - which will get very thin when then inevitably overheating. Best to change the gearbox oil, note if lots of sludge or debris comes out (or is attached to the drain plug). If oil is the problem, total siezure may be just down the road.

Audi a4 tdi stiff gearchange worse when hot 1197 model

tandard practice to change the oil on a clutch replacement. Was the replacemmiles it's covered, but it's not sounds like the gearbox oil need changing. You don't say how many miles it has done. Gear box oil is not usually changed in a clutch replacement. Did an Audi garage carry out the rlacement? It could be the cable needs adjusting to allow the clutch to have free movement
