Answered

I'm attempting to replace the valve cover gasket from a 1996 Toyota Carina (engine type E-AT211). Wiring, screws, plug wires, and plugs have all been removed; but, the valve cover is still attached solid. Both the valve cover and head are made of aluminum; so, I have avoided prying to prevent damaging them. What's the trick? I don't see any other parts to remove? Thank you fro all your help.

TAP VALVE WITH RUBBER HAMMER OR TAKE A PIECE OF WOOD AND HAMMER.PLACE WOOD AGAINST VALVE COVER THE TAP WOOD WITH HAMMER VALVE COVER SHOULD LOOSEN UP.

    Thanks for the suggestion; however, the valve cover still refuses to move. This time I attempted to pry it some (near the timing belt cover). It budges, but doesn't even hint at coming lose.

    CHECK CAREFULLY STILL COULD HAVE LEFT A BOLT IN PLACE.TAP WITH A HUB CAP RUBBER HAMMER SHOULD KNOCK IT RIGHT A LOOSE.

    Thanks for the suggestion. Visibly, there are... 4 plug wires, 4 plugs, 4 bolts, 2 hoses. Nothing more.

    REMOVE 4 SPARK PLUG WIRES AND REMOVE 4 SPARK PLUGS. REMOVE THE 4 BOLTS AND 2 HOSES VALVE COVER SHOULD COME OFF.

    Some engine types have additional nuts in the spark plug slots. This engine type doesn't.

    WELL TIMING BELT COVER COULD BE HOLDING VALVE COVER IN PLACE.CHECK AROUND TIMING COVER.

Changhing valve cover gasket 03 mitz galant 3.0 v6
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the upper intake manifold.
  3. On the 3.0L DOHC engine, remove the ignition wire cover.
  4. Remove the ignition wires and spark plugs.
  5. Remove the crankcase ventilation tubes from both valve covers.
  6. Remove the retaining nuts and engine wiring from both valve covers and move aside.
  7. Remove the valve cover retaining bolts and studs.
  8. Remove both valve covers from the engine.
To install:
  1. Clean the valve cover gasket sealing surfaces.
  2. Install new valve cover gaskets onto the valve covers.
  3. Place the valve covers into position.
  4. Reinstall the valve cover retaining bolts and studs and tighten in sequence to:

    3.0L SOHC engine: 7 ft. lbs. (9 Nm)3.0L DOHC engine: 42-54 inch lbs. (4-5 Nm)3.5L engine: 30 inch lbs. (3 Nm)
  5. Install the engine wiring and tighten the retaining nuts.
  6. Install the crankcase ventilation tubes into both valve covers.
  7. Install the ignition wire separators, the ignition wires, and the spark plugs.
  8. On the 3.0L DOHC engine, install the ignition wire cover.
  9. Install the upper intake manifold as described in this section.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
  11. Run the engine and check for leaks and proper operation.

Need to remove valve cover on 2000 Camry Toyota
For the four cylinder engine:

  1. Remove and label all electrical wiring, connectors and vacuum hoses necessary to gain removal clearance.
  2. Remove the spark plug wires. Disconnect the PCV hose.
  3. Remove the four nuts and grommets located on top of the cylinder head cover.
  1. Remove the cylinder head cover and the cover gasket from the cylinder head.
  2. Discard the gasket and replace with a new one.
To install:
  1. With a wire brush or gasket scraper, remove all the old gasket material from the cylinder head and the cylinder head cover gasket surfaces.
  2. When the cylinder head surfaces are free and clean, apply beads of sealant to the cylinder head in the locations shown in the accompanying illustrations.
  3. Install the new cylinder head gasket in the cover. Make sure that the gasket seats evenly.
  4. Place the cylinder head cover with the gasket onto the cylinder head.
  5. Install the four grommets and nuts. Uniformly tighten the nuts in several passes to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  6. Connect the PCV hose. Connect all removed vacuum hoses, connectors and electrical wiring. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Start the engine and inspect for oil leaks.
  8. Repair any leaks as necessary.
For the V-6 (3.0L) engine:
  1. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  2. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose.
  3. Disconnect the throttle and accelerator cables.
  4. Remove the air cleaner cap assembly.
  5. Remove the V-bank cover. Use a hexagon wrench to loosen the nuts.
  6. Label and remove all emission control valve hoses. Disconnect any wiring interfering with the valve cover removal.
  7. Remove the air intake chamber. This will gain you access to the back valve cover.
  8. Disconnect the engine wire from the left hand side, No. 3 timing belt cover, rear side and right hand side. Most of the wiring is secured by nuts and or bolts to the body of the vehicle.
  9. Remove the ignition coils, make sure the place them in order on a table so not to mix them up.
  10. Remove the 8 bolts retaining the valve covers and gasket.
  11. Clean the mating area of the valve cover and cylinder heads well. If necessary, scrape any left gasket from either surface.
  12. Apply seal packing to the cylinder heads and place new gaskets into position.
  13. Attach the valve covers. Uniformly tighten the bolts in several passes to 69 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  14. Install the spark plugs in their proper locations, then place the ignition coils into place and secure.
  15. Attach all engine wiring be sure to secure each harness properly.
  16. Install the air intake chamber. Refer to Fuel System .
  17. Attach all emission hoses and wiring.
  18. Attach the V-bank cover.

of course this may cause a misfire, overheat engine, fault plugs, carbon build up, replace valve tube seals, valve cover gasket, also your plug wires may be damaged it they swalled replace them.

I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant and need to know how to put on a valve cover gasket. Oil is leaking out and dripping and it's causing it to burn and smoke comes out of the car.
Instructions
    • 1 Allow the car to cool. Disconnect the battery terminal. Remove the right side vent screen top extension. Disconnect the ignition coil with power transistor and its wiring and brackets.
    • 2 Disconnect the left hand side coil wires and spark plug wires. Remove the spark plug wires, valve cover bolts and the valve cover. Unplug the electrical connections from the intake manifold runner control actuator. Unfasten the actuator retaining the screws, right bank heated oxygen sensor front and rear.
    • 3 Remove the heated positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve. Remove the heated oxygen sensor plug and the Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) sensor. Disconnect the ignition coil with power transistor and its wiring and bracket. Remove the valve cover bolts, the valve cover and the old valve cover gasket. Clean the valve cover seating area with automotive engine cleaner and place the new gasket in the gasket seating area.
    • 4 Replace the parts that were removed and disconnected by reversing the steps. Replace the valve cover gasket and tighten the bolts, in sequence, ensuring not to over tighten. Put back the ignition coil with power transistor and its wiring and bracket, the heated positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve, the heated oxygen sensor plug and the Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) sensor.
    • 5 Add oil to the car. Start the car and let it run at idle for a while to check for leaks..

I pulled a spark plug to change plugs and the spark plug wire boot was all wet from oil. The other three plugs were fine. The rest of the engine looked fine apart from the regular dirty engine look. No oil...
yes, the valve cover gasket is the only thing that can cause this, and yes, you have to remove the cover and put a new gasket in to fix. Please let me know if you have more questions.

At what mileage do you replace your timing belt on a 2007 Toyota Camry? When you replace this do you replace anything else at the same time to prevent fixing it more than once?
Replacement is at 60k.
Replace the following items:
Water pump, thermostat and gasket, all radiator and heater hoses,camshaft seal, crankshaft seal, oil pump sprocket seal( Right under sprocket) timing belt, two tensioners, spring(optional check its length) and valve cover gasket.
Depending on last tune up good time for wires and plugs and fuel filter.
getting TDC is easy on this bird . Hint: once you gotTDC off crank and Cam (little check hole on Cam sprocket must line up with indentation on face of Cam seal holder) Paint it white for easy installiation later.
Hint: remove harmonic balancer with a steering wheel puller use same puller for crank shaft sprocket.
Puller has two bolts that screw into both items and one center screw in type anvil . Don't even attempt to remove these with a rubber mallet or pry bar. These pulleys sit on two seperate woodruff keys.You'll be there forever. Don't forget to remove the front engine mount and place a block of wood on jack TOO LIGHTLY LIFT WEIGHT OF ENGONE OFF OF BOLTS SO YOU CAN UNSCREW THEM. Two pumps of the jack should do it.Double check all new items with old ones MAKE SURE THEY ARE IDENTICAL ESPECIALLY TENSIONERS.
PRIOR TO REMOVING TIMING BELT COVERS REMOVE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WIRING.
