It is possible that your relay is bad. To test, pull off little wire that goes to starter, and short it out with a screwdriver between the wire from the battery and the little post where the wire to the starter goes. If the truck cranks, your relay is bad.
I just replaced this part on a 1991 Ranger, it cost 12 bucks and took about 10 minutes.

98 ford ranger 4cyl 5 speed. When u turn the key to on position I get no warning lights on dash except battery light and seatbelt light. Nothing else.truck wont start. Dont even click.

Check the batter voltage first. If not that check fuse panel under hood for a 100 amp fuse check to see if the fuse is bad or if it has power. Also check fuseable link wire at starter to see if wire is still good. If it is bad, internal short possible on starter, take out and test it. Replace fusible link.

Truck turns over and starts when I connect battery???? No key is even in the ignition.

Maybe the ignition is bad- or your starter solenoid stuck in engaged position?

Will a 87 ford ranger v6 4 wheel drive trans. fit in a 86 ford ranger 4 cyl 4 wheel drive

If automatic transmission wont work engine block's are not the same, if stander transmission you could swap out bell housing held on with four bolt's from one to the other. Good luck and hope this was very helpful.

I have a 93 Ford Ranger (2.3L 4cyl 5spd manual) and the key lock cylinder is going bad, meaning the key sticks & then won't turn the ignition for 2-4 tries, but then if I turn the ignition switch...

You will need a new lock cyl. which is best purchased from ford, the tumblers are the culpret in your situation, you shouldn't need to remove the steering wheel the cyl can be removed after taking the trim bessels off, also if yours has the big black plastic key you have a transponder antitheft system so it is best to us ford cyl and code it to your original key so no need to reprogram keys, IE aftermarket cyl w. new keys.
The cyl should be about 100+ depending where you live.

Starter relay clicks when you turn ignition key on

no this is either caused by a defective starter solenoid (on starter) or a defective positive battery (red) cable, both are common on this year of explorer.
