  • De-pressurize the Camry's fuel system. With the gas cap open (to release pressure in that location), open the fuse/relay panel under the hood and remove the relay labeled "C/OPN." Start the engine and let it run until it stops. Disconnect the battery's negative cable.

  • Detach the rear seat from the car. Lift up the front edge of the seat bottom cushion, disconnect the mounting bolt underneath and remove the cushion. Pull up the seat back locks, flip the seat backs down and remove the mounting bolts.

  • Remove the service hole cover from the floor under the seat concealing the fuel pump/sending unit.

  • Disconnect the fuel line and electrical connectors from the fuel pump unit. Remove the retaining bolts and withdraw the unit carefully out of the fuel tank.

  • Release the clips on the fuel pump assembly's plastic support with a screwdriver to remove the support. Then pull off the rubber isolator, remove the fuel sock filter and disconnect the electrical connector from the top of the assembly. You can now withdraw the fuel pump from the housing.

  • Connect the new fuel pump into place on the assembly housing. Reassemble the fuel pump/sending unit in order, from the electrical connector to the fuel sock filter, rubber isolator and bottom plastic support.

  • Place the pump unit back within the fuel tank and reattach the bolts. Reconnect the electrical connectors and the fuel line. Reattach the rear seats.

  • Replace the "C/OPN" relay, reconnect the negative battery cable and fill the fuel tank if it is empty.

  • Pressurize the Camry's fuel system by turning the ignition on for a couple of seconds. Then turn it off for ten and repeat this five to ten times.

Locate the fuel filter by looking under the hood on the driver's side. The fuel filter is a somewhat small canister with the fuel line connected to each end.

Disconnect the negative battery cable, and as a precaution wait 90 seconds or more to be sure you don't disturb the air bags. Remove the fuel filter's protective shield. Also remove the air cleaner hose and cap and the charcoal canister, if they're in the way.

Loosen the lower flare nut slowly to allow all the pressure out. Remove the banjo fitting and two metal gaskets. Then, disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter and take the filter out of the mounting bracket.

Put the new fuel filter in the mounting bracket, pointing the direction arrow toward the engine. Put a new metal gasket on each end. Attach it with the union bolt.

Tighten the flare nut on the lower connection. Replace the charcoal canister, air cleaner hose and air cleaner cap, if applicable. Put the protective shield back on and reattach the negative battery cable. Start your Toyota Camry and check for leaks.

SOURCE: Shop manual for 2005 Santa Fe 3.5L shows a fuel

Change to Exterior filter not the tank filter. The in tank filter is actually a sock located on the Fuel Pump in the tank. This is rarely a problem. The exterior filter is going to be in-line most likely on the passenger side of the vehicle toward the rear. Easiest way to locate it is to trace the fuel lines back tot eh front of the vehicle from the fuel tank.

SOURCE: Check engine light stayson & car idles

There are many different things in todays engines that can cause a rough idle. First you need to know what codes the engine is throwing. My suggestion for this is to make use of Autozone's(or similar part stores) free engine diagnosis. They will give you a print off of the codes and it includes most likely causes and fixes.

    Where is the full filter

I believe there is actually an access panel in front of the second row seat behind the drivers seat that you can access the top of the tank, fuel pump and possibly the fuel filter. Lift up the carpeting and check.
    1. Remove the fuel tank cap to lower the fuel tank's internal pressure. 2. Locate access cover. 3. Remove the fuel pump & fuel filter assembly installation screws, then remove the fuel pump & fuel filter assembly from the fuel tank.

However, I would look at ignition or tune up issues rather than simply a fuel filter.

Find out what the engine problem is by having the engine's computer scanned through the OBD-II port.

Fuel Pump - Removal & Installation
The in-tank fuel pump module contains the fuel pump and pressure regulator which adjusts fuel system pressure. Fuel pump voltage is supplied through the fuel pump relay.

The fuel pump is serviced as part of the fuel pump module. The fuel pump module is installed in the top of the fuel tank and contains the electric fuel pump, fuel pump reservoir, inlet strainer fuel gauge sending unit, fuel supply and return line connections and the pressure regulator. The inlet strainer, fuel pressure regulator and level sensor are the only serviceable items. If the fuel pump requires service, replace the fuel pump module.
    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
    2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
    3. Remove or disconnect the following:
      Negative battery cable Fuel tank

    To install:
    1. Thoroughly clean all parts. Wipe the seal area of the tank clean. Place a new O-ring on the ledge between the tank threads and the pump module opening.
    2. Position the fuel pump module in the tank. Be sure the alignment tab on the underside of the pump module flange sits in the corresponding notch in the fuel tank.
    3. While holding the fuel pump module in place install the locking ring and torque to 40 inch lbs. (5 Nm) using special tool 6856 or a spanner-type tool.
    4. Install or connect the following:
