My 2001 Mazda Tribute sputters when in gear (R, or D), and when accelerating whilst taking off, I really have to put my foot down for the vehicle to move... also when drive along at a high speed, and its shifts into 4th, (RPM below 2000), it sputters and jumps around quite a bit.... So basically, sputters at low RPM.. Do you have any idea what the cause of this might be? .. Thanks

A dirty fuel filter can cause hesitation/ sputtering.
If it's been 12,000 miles or more replace it

Hi,
Could be ignition coils failing or injectors. Don't know the mileage on your car, but could be worn out engine too. Change your oil often?

  • Anonymous Jan 02, 2011

Hi, yeah I have changed my oil in the last 1000km... it currently has 170,000kms on it, transmission was replaced 20,000km ago. Thanks

    Hi!
Is the check engine light on? If so, head into an autozone or pepboys for a code pull. they will tell what the code is. if it is cylinder misfires, could be what we are discussing.

When slowing down & stopping 2005 Mazda tribute sputters and dies

Sounds like it could possibly be a vaccume problem, the computer sees that the vaccume has a low pressure and thus fludding the engine, or visa versa, it's seeing too high of a pressure and cutting the fuel comsumption to a minumum enough to make the engine sputter and die.. Does this happen when the cars in Netural or Reverse or Park? Just Drive?

2001 Mazda Tribute V6 engine miss

Take the vehicle to Auto Zone or another parts store that will read the engine fault code from the ECM for you. Most will do it for free. Depending on how long it has been since you replaced the plugs and wires on your vehicle you may have a bad spark plug or plug wire that is causing the problem. Easy enough to fix if you don't have to pull the air intake assembly to change the back 3 plugs. If you do have to pull this you should get a chiltons repair manual so you ahve instructions on how to remove and replace the intake assembly.

Gear shift is broken in a 2001 Mazda Tribute 3.0

Mine did the same thing on May 31. Turns out the cable that passes through the firewall from the steering column to the side of the transmission had come disconected at the transmission. I was able to re-connect it using a tie wrap for a temporary solution. Hope this helps.
