I blew the fuse for the auxillery power (looks like the "cigerette lighter" recepticle). I haven't been able to figure out what it is called on the fuse panel. Passenger side, side of dash board.

THE NAME MAY BE HARD TO RECOGNIZE. GET A GOOD FUSE TESTER, & TEST EVERY FUSE.THERE IS A FUSE PANEL INSIDE THE VEHICLE & ALSO UNDER THE HOOD. ALL OF THE FUSES CAN BE TESTED WITHOUT REMOVING THEM FROM THE FUSE BOX. LOOK CLOSELY & YOU CAN SEE TEST POINTS FACING OUT ON EACH FUSE. POWER ON ONE SIDE OF THE FUSE ONLY, MEANS THE FUSE IS BAD. POWER ON BOTH SIDES , THE FUSE IS O.K.
IGNITION SWITCH SHOULD BE ON DURING THE TESTING.

1999 f150 keeps blowing cigarette lighter fuse

Does the fuse blow even if nothing is insterted into the light housing? May be a shorted woire , or possible the socket assy wires have contacted each other on the back side of the recepticle. On the back of the lighter housing are 2 spade or flat blade connectors. One spade is 12volt battery power which feeds the center of the socket and a spade on the outer of the socket which is a ground. I would start by removing the lighter recepticle and make sure both terminals are in the correct positioned and have not fallen off and made contact with each other. Also once remoced you can unplug and check for battery power and ground at terminal. If you remove the sockjet and unplug and the fuse still blows when you install it there is a short in ther wiring.

Blew the fuse for the cigarette lighter (using air pump) and the car manual does not say which one it is. Where can I get a diagram of what the fuses are and how to open the box (not the panel that drops...

the fuse box cover is held by plastic 'tabs' that snap over 'ears' on the box.there should be a legend on box lid.if not check 25 amp [clear plastic] fuses first.you may have damaged the lighter recepticle as well.it got hot before it blew the fuse.generic lighter & socket sets are avalible at auto & chain stores.
