There may be one on the thermostat housing. If not jack the van up higher on the cap side.

There's a bleed screw located at the bottom of the radiator. Open screw let fluid run out of radiator. Fill radiator with water run vehicle. Repeat above steps until fluid is clear. Use a coolant system flush. Refill system with appropriate amount of coolant and water.

SOURCE: My 2001 ford windstar lx van smells like coolant when i drive

Several things to check. Have the cooling system pressure checked. A quick and simple test. Puts system under pressure and helps to locate a leak. The coolant doesn't just go away, it's got to be leaking either externally or internally. Be sure that the radiator cap is checked too. It needs to maintain the proper pressure for the system
Sound like coolant is leaking on the exhaust system. This can result in the smell and you will not see a leak as it is evaporating when it hits the hot pipes.
Good Luck

SOURCE: i have a 2000 ford windstar no heat still

the problem (which is all to common on Windstar and Explorer) is the air temperture control blend door actuator motor is defective, this motor is what moves a door that gives hot, cold or a blend of hot and cold air blend to give u the desired outlet air temp.

SOURCE: 2000 ford windstar won't crank over, but pats keys good, and batt.

First thing I would check is to see if you have power at the trigger wire of the starter motor while someone is trying to start the vehicle for you. It will be a Yellow with a light blue trace. If you do then I would check to see if the main battery cable has power to it all the time when someone is trying to crank it. If it does then I would hold a test light on the case of the starter motor and have someone try to crank it. Make sure that the ground you use for this test is on the negative battery terminal not just anywhere on the car. If the test light lights while you are cranking it then you have a bad ground. Hook up a set of jumper cables from the battery negative terminal and clamp it directly on to your starter motor and see if it starts. If you check it and the test light doesn't light up and all the other checks are good then your starter motor has failed. If one of the other tests has failed then you have a starter relay problem or something else. let me know what you find out.

SOURCE: remove fuel pump from tank ford windstar 98

To gain access to the fuel pump, it is necessary to remove the fuel tank.

  1. Depressurize the fuel system and remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.
  2. Remove any dirt that has accumulated around the fuel pump module attaching flange, to prevent it from entering the tank during service.
  3. Turn the fuel pump module locking ring counterclockwise using a locking ring removal tool or a brass drift and remove the locking ring.
  4. Remove the fuel pump module.
  5. Remove the seal gasket and discard it.

To install:
  1. Put a light coating of grease on a new seal ring to hold it in place during assembly. Install it in fuel tank ring groove.
  2. Insert the fuel pump module into the fuel tank, then secure it in place with the locking ring. Tighten the ring until secure.
  3. Install the tank in the vehicle.
  4. Install a minimum of 10 gallons of fuel and check for leaks.
  5. Install a pressure gauge on the throttle body valve and turn the ignition ON for 3 seconds. Turn the key OFF , then repeat the key cycle five to ten times until the pressure gauge shows at least 30 psi.
  6. Check for fuel leaks at the fittings.
  7. Remove the pressure gauge.
  8. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.

How to bleed cooling system on 1995 windstar with 3.8

Use a floor jack and raise the car up as high as possible, fill the coolant recovery tank as full as possible and run the engine until it reaches the high end of normal temperature, shut it down and run cols water war over the radiator, the air will self bleed and coolant will be pulled into the radiator as it cools to fill the void. The radiator cap is left on during this procedure.

Drain collant system

You may not have drain plug but look on the drivers side of radiator at the bottom. If not you will have to take the bottom radiator hose off to drain.Run sme fresh water through it a few times, like three.Put in about 1 1/2 gallons of straight antifreeze, you will already have water in the block. You may have to bleed the air out.Look on top of the thermostat housing for bleed screw, and maby one of the metel heater lines, warm up and opem these just anough till only coolant comes out.If not warm up,cooldown a few times, checking coolant when its cool, may have to cycle a few times.DONT OVERHEAT THIS MOTOR,good luck

My check engine light is on and my dash read collant data temp error. This is on a 2005 ford expedition. My mechanic says it is the cylinder temp heas sensor. Is there alot of work to replace this? the...

Easy to change,,,, thread the old 1 out ( unplug harness first ) and thread the new 1 in.Do this on a cold engine,as coolant will leak and may get on your skin.Just so you do not burn yourself. You will need a pan under the area of the sensor to catch / save the leaking fluid.
