2006 Jag xj, passengers door cannot be opened either from inside or outside. The inside door handle is in a "half cocked" position and I have tried all I can think of with combinations of Key fob, door lock etc with no success. The locking indicator tab above the interior handle seems to work ok, but the main interior handle wont return to its natural position.Try the external handle and it is not engaging with any mechanism and just lifts and returns to its position. Any ideas how to fix it without taking the interior door panel off?

I had exact problem Santa Fe 2007 2008 lock was stuck in locked position and door would not open from inside or out. All other doors would unlock with auto key remote. Carefully work the inside lock towards the open position as you lock and unlock the door with the remote. As you press unlock try to assist the lock to open. I did this a few times and the lock became free to the open position and all worked perfectly after this.

Child locks only disable the INSIDE handle leaving the OUTSIDE handle operating. Sounds like the linkage for the outer handle has come apart.

Sounds like the latch is stuck in the intermediate position. the actuator or latch probably needs replaced. Go to the dealer on this one.

only way to repair is to replace the handles. this is a common problem they use a toothed circle to work the lever and it wears and jumps a tooth basically and it will pop the tooth off if you push it back.so replacement is only fix
