I own a 93 buick regal custom. i live in canada where the temperature hits just below freezing, anyhow i hadn't used my car in about 3 days, came to try to open it, lock was frozen, so we put lock de-icer and since i went on vacation my grandfather continued to put lock de-icer and try to open the door. we managed to get the door open about a week later. but we had to use a slim jim, because the key wouldnt help, still to this day, the only way to get into the car is i have to leave the window open while the car is in my garage and try to unlock my door from the inside, but it works sometimes, i have power locks, but i do not have a remote fob to unlock, its only in the door, what is the problem? The back doors are not a problem, when we unlocked all the doors, they open.

it turns, it feels normal, when you turn it to unlock, it feels like it unlocked but it doesn't do anything on the inside, like if you check the lock position on the door it's still locked

It sounds like the linkage is now broken or the latch inside the door is not working or is disconnected. I live here in Alaska and I have seen and worked on this same problem many, many times. -- one thing you can do is remove the inside door panel to expose the linkage rods and make sure that one of them did not get unhooked while you were trying to slim jim the door. if a linkage is disconnected then just reconnect it ( as long as the clip is not broken -- you can get new clips at either the dealer or a automotive locksmith shop. but when you do get to the inside of the door what you will see is -- one rod going from the lock to the latch,, one rod going from the latch to the lock/unlock button,, there will be a rod going from the outside door handle down to the latch and there is also a rod going from the inside door handle to the latch. the one you want to look at is the one from the lock to the latch -- if it is loose, then it is disconnected, re-connect and you should be good to go. also to help keep this from happening again, spray lubrication into ALL your locks and cycle key in and out a few times and re-spray ( use ONLY Teflon based lube -- like Tri-flow* or LPS,, NO WD-40 !!! ) this will help keep all the moisture out of the pins and waffers in the lock itself, also while doing the panel removal and latch fixing keep the car in the warm garage to help dry out any moisture that may still be in the door and locks. I hope this helps -- when you start to pull things apart feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions (( [email protected] )) ,, I have been a locksmith for 18 years and I have torn down many door panels and I can walk you through the whole thing.. BUT if you do not want to get your hands dirty -- just make an appointment at your local automotive locksmith shop and for $20 -$35 dollars they will do all this in about 30 to 45 minutes,, plus they willl lube everything up for you and you will have hassle free locks for a long time. hope all works out well --- and Happy NewYear !!

but that whole turning key that feels normal but doesnt do anything was happening before i used the slim jim, it was the reason why i had to use the slim jim....i was locked out of my car even with my keys i couldnt open it

    hello,
this is for sure a lock/latch linkage issue, the linkages are held in place by small plastic clips and can get brittle when it gets cold out and crack and/or brake. remove the door panel and replace the clip and re-attach the linkage. there is also a chance that the back half of the lock has broken ( but this is very rare ). I am going to put my money on the linkage and linkage clip, I live and work in Alaska and at the lock shop we see this all the time.

Where are the timing marks on a 93 buick regal custom, and how do they go aligned.

Buy a manual for your car from an auto parts store. It will have all the information you need to time the engine properly.

My 93 buick regal custom 3.8l has a bad ac pump and makes an aweful noise when running. The ac doesnt work and the 'clutch' on the pump spins freely, is this an easy fix or do i need a new ac pump?

you would need a new a/c pump, however you you didnt want to replace it and could live with out the a/c, a cheaper option is to replace the belt and bypass the a/c. Most auto parts store will sell you a belt of the correct dimensions if you tell them you wish to bypass the a/c. I've done this for many customers. It can be done on just about any motor.

Best of Luck.....

Does a 1993 buick regal take 5w 30 oil

Yes this is the best oil for the car if you are in an environment when the temperature changes form freezing to warm through out the year. If it is never freezing where the car is driven you can use 10w-30 also.

Good Luck,

I have a '93 Buick Regal Custom. Last year I was unable to open the passengers door from the outside, I can open from the inside but not outside. I lived with it until now. The drivers door is doing the...

I have this problem every year with my car, 1993 buick regal custom, 3.8. What happens is it gets cold, warms up a bit, and ice or snow melts and gets in the door, then it gets cold again and it freezes. I go to unlock and open the door from the outside and this problem arises.

There is a vertical rod on the left side of the drivers side, right side of the passenger side, that gets bent, from trying to open the door when that mechanism is frozen up. Just bend it back, a TINY bit and it will start working.

I got tired of taking my door apart every time it happened so i cut a little "door" in the cover thing, so i can get at that bar.

I also tried coating it in grease and that seems to lessen the frequency.
