Check vacum lines for leaks in the headlight assembly, sometimes they dry rot,the vacum lines] it has to a vacum issue. you may need to replace the vacum lines with new vacum hose. you can but it by the foot at any parts store, but you'll need to carry a peice of old one to get exact size.trace the vacum lines from headlights to the source of vacum canister, just to be sure that the canister itself isn't leaking. look for cracks in the vacum lines along the way.if you find that the canister is cracked,it can be repaired by jb weld and repainted, just to keep it original.thank you for choosing fixya.com

Does your cluster intensity decreases when you hide the photocell? The photocell aperture is on the upper left corner of the dash cluster. If it does not, this gentleman can repair it for you or provide the repair kit: http://www.batee.com/corvette/dcrg/photocell/

Corvette Headlight Motor Problem

Corvettes have a gear box on that motor. It has plastic gears in it. You probably have a gear stripped in that gear box, that lets the motor spin free. You can get repair parts to repair it, or replace the whole motor and gear box. Its an easy fix if your handy. Read all the instructions before you start.

1989 corvette - headlights do not open all the way - motors run but it seems like something is slipping and they will not open fully. Is there a "clutch adjustment" on the motor assembly that can be...

I had to rebuild the headlight motor gears on my 89 last year. There is a plastic gear in the headlight assembly that has little plastic "barrels" in it for tension. These little bushings disentigrate over a short period of time. both of mine went out about a month apart. They are called the Delrin Bushings and sell for 8.99 a set (MAdirect). sometimes the plastic gear get's damaged, so you may want a kit. I used a new plastic set don't recall how much, they also sell brass for $59 each side. I figure the plastic lasted 20 years last time. It is not for the novice, but it wasn't too hard if you have the right tools. second side took me an hour. good instructions.

Right headlight door opens half way

There is an adjustment knob next to the headlight bucket, remove the cover, should be a hard molded piece that looks like it would cap a funky looking A-1 steak sauce bottle. Adjust the gear by twisting it.
