Help.. A friend has a 95 Saab 900 se V6.. Gearbox has gone. Just wanting to know how expensive this can get, cuz she has been quoted something ridiculous and i just want to know if there is a possibility to solve this problem without getting a second mortgage ?? please advise
Hey go to Ebay and look for a good used Saab transmission and also look up the Graigslist online for your area under auto repair and call and get some estimates as to how much they would charge to install it for you..I had an engine installed in my car this way( It was a lot cheaper with good mechanic's doing the work)
Good Luck, chaz
Labor for a transmission job can approach 15-20 hours at some shops. Figure on an average of $70-100 an hour for labor, and the costs go very high before you even figure in the cost of another transmission. Try and find an independent Euro specialty shop rather than a dealer or corner garage though - they'll have more specific knowledge of European cars than a generic shop will, and they usually are quite a bit less expensive than a dealership.
