On a four-cylinder engine, this is located between the alternator and exhaust manifold. On a 6 cylinder engine, the inlet pipe is bolted to the cylinder head with the thermostat housing at the back of the intake manifold.

Hi!!
Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine, the part where it plugs into, is the thermostat housing, remove it to replace the thermostat.

On a 1996 toyota camry ca you tell me where the thermastat and water pump are located?

the thermostat is located on the top of the engine follow the radiator hose it usually ends at the thermostat and the lower hose usually ends at the water pump which in your case will probably be on the side of the engine.

Location of the thermostat Toyota Camry 1996

On both diesel and gasoline engines, the thermostat is located in the water inlet housing connected to the lower radiator hose.

CAUTION Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant. Also, when draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantities. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.

Hope helped with this (remember rated this help) Good luck.

Car dose not go thow all the gears

For some toyotas (I own a 1994 4-runner) there is an emissions-control feature that disables Overdrive until the engine is up to full temperature.
In my case, it would get into overdrive, but it took a very long time to get there, especially in winter. Turns out that the thermostat was stuck open, so the engine was running very cold. About $150 got me a new thermostat and now it's all better.

Hope that helps!

My 1996 toyota camry is overheating. we checked all the fluids and changed the thermostat. i have no idea what else can possibly be wrong

Check the Temperature control sensor (TPS) and/or the engine control temperature guage. Did you bleed the system when you changed the thermostat ? It has to be bled because air pockets will form when you drain the coolant.
