Check the fuel filter, it is often cause for this kind of troubles, it looks like a small plastic cylinder near to the fuel pump. It is very easy to replace.
Check and eventually replace spark plugs.
If you do not solve it replacing the fuel filter and spark plugs, then it is likely to be a dirty or faulty injector problem. In this case find a good garage in your area and have the injectors checked.
To do some maintenance by yourself you will need the complete service manual for your car, you can buy it from Haynes.

Hello sir
is it carburated or fuel injected....if it carburated it may just need a tune-up on the carb.

thank u

  • Anonymous Jul 08, 2008

    sir

i change the fuel pump and give it a tune up and set my idle a little higher adjusted my timing and it ll run fine. u can try adjusting the timing by ear but most shops can do it with a light in less time and not much hassle for the timing and u should also try changing your igntion coil the external ones are the way to go FYI

    thank u

    hello sir

In late-model cars, a blinking light usually indicates an engine misfire so severe that unburned fuel is being dumped into the exhaust system, where it can quickly damage the catalytic converter, requiring an expensive repair. If that happens, you should reduce power and have the car looked at as soon as possible. If the light is steady, the problem is not an emergency, but you should schedule an appointment with a mech as soon as possible

I have a 97 ford f150 4.6l got gas started driving and it started missing than check eng. light started flashing than stayed on it has never done that till today

so sounds like you need either 1 or more ignition coils replaced, have it scanned to see which cylinder/cylinders it is,plugs should be replaced as well because of carbon tracks on the plugs...this will ruin new coils!

1999 Cherokee starts but won't keep running without giving it throttle.

Assuming everything is working correctly, you may have to drive it up to 50 miles for the computer to relearn the basic perimeters.
I think you can also turn the key on, open the throttle to wide open, then close it 2 or 3 times to reset the memory in the computer.
Not sure about Jeeps.

Starts but won't stay running

sounds like a bad throttle position sensor or a fuel pressure regulator. also check the idle air control vavle

Car won't keepidel1989 300e Car won't keep idel, starts up runs for a while but cutsoff

first ensure your spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor/coil packs are in good shape. once thats done check for a check engine light, sometimes they come on then go off but a code will be stored regardless. once you have made sure your getting good spark and there are no trouble codes the issue is most likely a dirty throttle body or fault IAC (idle air control) valve or throttle positioning sensor. hope this helps, good luck

My brake light won't turn off even if my foot

Your brake switch is just hung up. it is located directly above the brake petal and is attached to the petal bracket-use a flashlight and get down low enough to see up under the dash where your brake petal is, it will be hooked onto the petal bracket-just move it, it is probably just mis-aligned.

Car stalls out while running

It sounds like it's not getting enough fuel to the engine if it stalls when you let up off the gas pedal but stays running with your foot on the gas it sounds like you need a new fuel pump and or fuel filter for the car.I can almost garantee thats part of the problem

Check engine light stays on

Make sure the gas cap is there and is fully tightened (it will click), a loss or missing cap will turn the check eng light on.
