2000 Toyota Avalon trunk release button on dash wont work but the remote button does work. I checked the button on the dash to make sure it makes contact when pressed. I tried jumping the two wires connected to the button but mothing happens. I can't find any fuese for the trunk release button. What else should I check?
Yep. The button in the glove box got bumped to the off position. IF YOU regularly lock your glove box, I suppose it will keep the valet attendants out of your trunk.Yep. Have you took your fob in to be tested. They can test it at automotive places , usually free. It will tell if it has power or not then possibly replace the battery. Or may need a new fob all together. Might have to order one from a Toyota dealer.
I suggest getting a helper. While you sit in the vehicle and press the button inside the passenger glove box, ask your friend to lift the trunk. If your friend can open the trunk easily, your torsion bar needs to be replaced. This acts a bit like a spring to push the trunk open when the lock releases it. Another issue could be the lock release has gummed up with dust in the lock grease. You vehicle is 21 years old and grease thickens up with dust and such over the years.
check the continuity of the switch/s sounds faulty to me... you have checked every thing else....but it may very well be a relay... all power comes from the box for that type of stuff except the switch itself (switched power) which i think has its own line perhaps to its own fuse on your model ..not sure
Button inside glove box (on left side) disables trunk opening...just push it again and trunk can be opened...worked for my 2007 Avalon. I must have bunped it by accident to disable the trunk and didn't realize the button existed. Toyota dealer said bring it in for $125 diagnostic but then I saw the cure in the car manual.
My avalon 2002 trunk was not opening. The problem was a little switch in the glove compartment was depressed I puched the switch back in and wala everything was just fine again. A lil black switch in the glove compartment. wish u the best.
Your trunk master switch is probably off. Open the glove box, and, on the driver side of the glove box, the trunk master switch is located there. If this is activated, the remote and the dash switch are deactivated. Please repost if this does not solve your problem.
