Do not change the knock sensor.

sounds like cam sensor in distributor is going. works cold fine, then as engine warms upo it starts going. is tach needle jumping too?

Buy reman rich porter on ebay for $200. sensor inside is not serviceable. common issue on 99-00.

WHAT CAUSE A MERCURY VILLAGER TO BOG GOING UP A HILL

when the tank gets low on fuel(under 1/4) or less.. the pump, which uses the gas to keep cool, will get hot and start to cavitate(run at slower speeds and cause a severe fuel pressure surge)..the engine will respond accordingly..most will do this as the system gets older..to avoid it and possible premature pump failure, keep the tank at least 1/4 fll..

Mine has 217,000 miles. Has run great up until some time ago, when it started driving roughly only in wet weather. Now in dry weather, it starts fine, but drives roughly after warmed up (15-20 min) and...

The knock sensor NEVER causes a drivability problem. DO NOT change it. Instead, clean the MAF, Mass Air Flow sesnor that's on the air intake tube near air cleaner. It is coated with varnish. Spray with carb cleaner several times and gently, gently brush the wires. Theya re glass coated. Be careful.

Then disconnect battery for 2 hours and then reconnect and drive for 0 miles for computer to relearn engine contrils.

Transmission Knock

this is most likely a transmission filter being dirty and it needs to be changed regularly as does the oil in your van. this is inside the transmission and needs to be serviced to complete this job i do not recommend you trying this by your self as you could damage your transmission.

1996 mercury villager quits running

It may be the camshaft sensor in the distributor. Sometimes the optical sesor can be cleaned. Most times, need new distributor or reman from ebay.
do not replace the knock sensor, it is never bad. ANd, it is in the middle of the engine. $1000 repair for nothing.

See this ste too.
