There are several possibilities for you to investigate. When the key is in the start position do you should hear a click from the starter solonoid? If so then you know that power is getting to the starter solonoid which eliminates a bad ignition switch. In that case you may have a bad starter. If you hear no click then you must get a test light and use it to see if power is getting to the starter solonoid. Ground the light and place the tip on the energizer wire to the solonoid. When an assistant turns the key to the start position the test light should light. This tells you power is where it should be and the solonoid is not working. If there is no power there then you must suspect a bad ignition switch or a bad wire in between the switch and the starter. Hope this helps.
Turn on the headlights and try and start the car, if the headlights dim dramatically there is a possible fault with the battery or the battery connections. Check connections to the starter motor and all engine earthing straps. Finally if still no progress rock the car in gear as the starter motor may be stuck in mesh with the flywheel.
