Check engine,2000 Nissan Maxima

Spent 1,000 dollars to replace catalytic converter and sensor. A few days later the check engine light came back on. The dealer said there is a second converter that needs to be changed. Is there two catalytic converters?

Just over a year ago "service engine soon" indicator lit up - car would stop running - dealer said a sensor was bad -replaced. Within a month the light came on again - car stalled a time or two - dealer checked - another sensor replaced. Shortly thereafter the light reappeared - dealer checked - catalytic converter bad - did not replace. I have driven the car for about a year with indicator light on with no problems. Just had car inspected and failed emissions test - code PO430 - catalytic converter. Inspector said I must replace.

probably just an O2 sensor on the 98 nissan, but I would replace catalytic converter if near 200k miles for GP.

I have Service engine light on for my nissan 2001 maxima. Dealer ran the diagnostics and said Bad o2 Sensor. Today , the Service engine light is gone.. Do I need to replace the part anyway or wait for the...

if it comes back, yes you will need. without pre o2 sensor your car wont idle, it will use lots of fuel and you will face drivability problems if it is post o2 sensor, it is there to check if catalytic converter is ok or not(it won caue drivability problems but may consume little more fuel to run rich and to save catalytic converter). if sensor is broken you need to replace it. if you have error for post o2 sensor but it is ok, this means your catalytic converter is going bad.

Replace your overflow cap. The seal under the cap goes bad and can no longer hold under pressure and will seep out a little or a lot, it also won't always give a check engine light except if it gets below the refill sensor. This is the cheapest trick to go with and then if this isn't it, at least you haven't spent $200. Do you see fluid on the ground or does the overflow tank look chalky white?

Pray.
Just kidding. Take it back to the dealership and demand that they find out what the check engine light is for. They may have just put the catalytic converter on wrong.

I have a 2006 Nissan Maxima and it is causing me problems. Check Engine light came on about three months ago but drove fine. No loss of mileage or anything. Did not pass smog do to a P2A00 code (O2 sensor...

i have a 2006 nissan maxima 6 spd. when i purchased it there was 89,500. i replaced the clutch disk, release bearing, pressure plate and added a brand new flywheel(from the nissan dealer). a few days afterwards, the check engine light came on with a P2A00 and a P0420. when replacing the clutch kit i had to remove the exhaust system. i thought that i did not correctly install the exhaust system. after many inspections, i did do a good job installing the exhaust system. at this point i replaced the upstream, bank one oxygen sensor(a pain in the rear). i pray for God to lead me to the problem. don't try this at home but i jacked the front of my car up and rested it on jack stands and chock the rear tire. i started the engine and got under the car under the engine. i heard an exhaust leak at the bottom of the bank one, rear catalytic converter. one that catalytic converter, it has a small heat shield tack welded at the bottom. after taking that heat shield off, i found that the two tack welds at the top of that heat shield had broken causing an exhaust leak. THANK THE LORD! after plugging those holes and drive my car normally for the next two days, the check engine light when off. problem solved!
