Transmission filter and fluid should be changed around every 75,000 miles. its easy to do. gasket and filter come as a kit from your local auto parts store. When filling the tranny fluid, always check your marks. Some sticks have a hot line only, and some have a cold and hot line.

Over filled transmisson oil

Loosen (not all the way) one of the transmission cooler lines at the radiator, and run the engine until it's not overfull. If it's jus a little overfull don't worry about it is really messy to try to let some out.

the sreeing i would make sure belt is tight and have the power steering fluid flushed, you may what to change trany oil with a bg system flush and then after the flush replace the filter and pan gasket,as far as the sputtering it may be the trany or the engine misfiring, have the fuel preasure tested and maybe have the injectors cleaned with a motor vac service, hope this helps,

After warm up the transmission will not always shift up into Drive and overdrive causing the engine to race.

try checking the fluid level if it is even aa half pint off it can cause shift problems, if it is low add some Lucas transmisson oil condtioner this will help it shift smoother. also look at the color of the fluid is it brownish in color? if yes then it's time to change the filter and fluid. if you take it to a shop they chagre about $150.00 but it will keep you from damaging the transmisson. the oil and filter for the transmisson should be changed every 30,000 miles on any car. Thisis oone of the most overlooked items of maintence on cars peopel simply don't know about change the filter and oil till they have to pay for a new transmisson.

I have the Toyota Avensis with manual transmission and Dexron III oil. Would you recommend to use the 75W/90 instead?

No you should use what the manufactures suggets they started using Dexron transmisson oil in th late 80's if you put heavier oil in it it will lower your fuel mileage and won't garentee that the gears and bearings will be lubercated with heavy oil, The heavyier oil won't splash until it warms up thus dry bearings ad goodbye transmisson.

Automatic transmission shutters on 1-2 shift when warm

change the transmisson oil and filter and all oil, about 12 quarts and add 1 quart of lucas transmisson condtioner to soften the seals and bands and clutchs and clean the shafts on the shifting valves.
