I have a 2004 vw Beetle 2 L engine that had the same problem.

After taking it to two mechanics finally diagnosed you need to start with replacing the Air Flow Meter. Fortunately for me this was the right fix.

It is an expensive part ($150-$200) that can not be returned.

You can also try a junk yard, you pull it and they run $40-$75.
That is what i did and it worked.

Good Luck.

My 2002 beetle will start but immediately dies how do you fix this problem?

The description is very vague. Make sure you have gas. then look on your dash. There is something called immobilizer. Basically your key programmed to your car. If that is acting up you will see the little icon of a key on your dash. that might be the deal. If it was your mass airflow, you can unplug it. Your car then will run in an open loop program but should run.

Beetle starts and then dies within seconds?

It could be anything. I think what you're refering to is if the ignition switch is still good.

My 2002 vw turbo beetle cut off while driving.

this is not good; you probably ran the turbo bearings dry and they have seized try to loosen the turbo by removing it breaking it loose and lubricating the bearings if they are still good or, find another one at the junkyard

I hit a curb and now the 1999 vw beetle will start but immediatet

You might try looking under the car for smashed fuel lines. The fuel lines run down the sides under the car, running up on a curb could very easily crush them leading to fuel starvation.Good luck,

2000 new beetle starting

Try changing the engine temp sensor. The sensor will be telling the ECU that the engine is hot when actually its cold. therefore the fuel mixture will be weak.I this doesnt cure it, i would be looking at fuel starvation. Faulty of cracked fuel pump or just maybe run out of fuel.
