Starter installation Our manual transmission 1991 Honda Accord is having what we believe to be starter problems. It began yesterday, but prior to yesterday it started immediately. Now it sometimes starts and sometimes does not. When it does not start, there is no sound when you turn it on to start. Electrical items still work. We found pictures online of starters, and it looks like they are held in with two small bolts. Is it just a matter of unscrewing the bolts, pulling out the starter, putting the correct new one in, and bolting it back in, or is there more to installing a starter?

I forgot to mention that even when we are having problems starting the car, it will start immediately if we "push-start" it, but "jump-starting" from another car with booster cables does nothing.

Having same problem however can only start by pushing. Bumped starter with screw driver check all fuses but still will not start with key

1st disconnect neg battery cable, then check the connections of all wiring to starter to make sure there's no corrosion, or bad connections. If anything looks corroded, clean it up with fine sandpaper or a wire brush, reconnect and see if it works. If not, remove the starter: disconnect neg battery cable 1st (always), then pos.,then disconnect large cable from starter, then label and remove wires to starter solenoid, some models have a clip holding engine harness (bundle of wires), remove clip and move wires out of the way, remove starter mounting bolts. Reverse to install. Good Luck Countrycurt0

Will a starter from a 1991 Honda accord interchange with my 1986 Honda accord starter

The short answer is no. There are 3 different starters used on each model year depending on which transmission is used. And the three used in 1986 are different part numbers from the 3 used in 1991.

How do i replace a starter motor for a 1991 honda accord automatic

It's bolted on to the transmission. Remove the air cleaner intake tube so you can access it. First disconnect your red wire on your battery (+). Then you can remove the wires on your starter and the bolts. You can blow some fuses and shoot off some sparks if your battery is still hooked up while doing this. Good luck, it's an easy fix.
