Check Engine and noisy belts in the hood

Hi I just got an ACURA RSX 2003 and i dont know if this needs timing belt replacement or is it a chain that doesnt ever need to be replaced and self adjusting? Problem is my idle is rough, im not sure if its just a case of simple tune up. Belts become noisy once the car gets warm.

Well the rev is ok, but if i play with the gas with soft touch, it goes down to 500 rpm that i hear a squea and engine vibrates. Slight misfire i guess. Check engine has lit twice but it just goes off.

Try just changing your serpentine belt which is the source or your squeaking you hear when the rpm start to jump around.

Your car has a timing chain with a hydraulic tensioner. is it just an unstable idle ( revs up and down) or does the engine have a slight misfire?

Does the 2008 Acura TL have a timing chain or belt?

All the Acura motors listed in my book show a chain. The water pumps are driven by a serpentine belt. Water pumps only need changing when they leak out of the drain ho0le underneath or become noisy from failing bearings.

Does the 2007 Acura have a timing belt or a timing chain and does it need to be replaced?

The TSX, RSX, RDX, models have chains. MDX 3.7L, RL 3.5L, TL 3.2L, TL 3.5L, ALL have belts. You did not specify your model #. Hope this helps.

How do you check your timing belt and replace it for 02 acura rsx

There is no timing belt on the K20. It's a Chain.
the Belt you see is only the Serpentine Belt. It's attached to a Crank pully so it'll turn the pullies on the AC and Power Stering Pumps, and also the Alternator. This is NOT the "timing belt" as it has nothing to do with the timing or running of the engine.

Regarding the heating issue, sounds like your thermostat is stuck open so the coolant isn't heating up. (May need replacement) Does your engine temp guage show it running colder than normal?

2003 Toyota 4 runner

Hi robrtsn,
As you forgot to say what the engine is in your 4-Runner....I'll give you the rule of thumb....if you have a timing chain in your engine, you'll need to check it only if it becomes noisy....If you have a timing belt, the manufactures recommend that it's replaced every one hundred thousand kilometers.....thats about sixty five thousand miles.... I believe that the later vehicles...(those with the electronic odometer fitted) have been extended to one hundred and fifty thousand, but to be on the safe side, I'd replace at one hundred thousand, especially with the number of sub standard parts that are available on the market these days....

Hope that's a help

2005 Acura RSX

The buckle and belt need to be replaced.  They are only good for one time during a collision.  The buckle has an explosive charge in it that causes the buckle to pull back toward the seat.  The belt does the the same.  It locks up during an accident, also so body shops can't try to reuse it.  The SRS light will stay on until they are replaced.
