2000 Olds intrigue: When i turn the key nothing happened. All the lights came on (like they would if it normally started). There was no clicking noise - nothing. I tried shifting the car from park thru the gears and back to park - nothing. I waited for a couple of hours and tried again and at first try - nothing, but turned the key a few more times and it started. I drove the car home, turned it off and started it several times without issue. This is the first time this has happened. Battery was replaced a few months ago. Car has 190,000 miles on it. From my searching on the internet i am guessing it is either the starter or the ignition switch. Is there a way to determine which it is? thanks, Bryan

If an ignition switch fails, sometimes you can jiggle the key and it will start right up. its very hard to tell. but if you can start it by bypassing the ignition switch, then its the switch itself. go to this site for more detailed info--- aa1car.com/library/1999/cm119948.htm---this page should help. click on top link.

Does the security light come on? Do you have a chip your key? You have a problem with your VATs security system. If your car stops running while driving or wont start, you're gunna be spendin some money to have this system fixed. Do it for cheaper. this guy has the answer.....http://newrockies.ca/?ap_id=judd0081 Trust me, i just did it on my buick regal. took about 2 hours, saved over 500 bucks. This not starting issue has been a problem for a year for me. Temperary fix, turn your key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, wait ten minutes. turn it back then forward again to start.

What is with these '01 Olds Intrigues and starting/stalling failures?! This POS has 146K on the clock and is going to hell rapidly! No lights, sometimes. Lights, hear fuel pump, IP lights,self-checks,...

Are you using a key fob to open/lock the door or the door switch to lock it? I have a 2000, the factory alarms on these are very strange and act up-and the ignition switches are notorious for causing problems like this.

Car wont crank

I have a 2000 Olds Intrigue that has the starting problem that some people have spoke about. You turn the key and all lights come on but the car will not start nothing. I 1st replaced the ignition switch which did not correct the problem. To get around the problem I have connected a wire to my starter and ran the wire up to the battery and when the car acts up I take the wire touch the positive pole on the battery post and the starter will turn over. I then get in my car and use the key and start the car. I have not been stranded by the car since. I try the key a few times if nothing happens I'll wait a few minutes and if that does not do it I jump the starter with my wire. This has been working for the last 2 years. It's not a correction but it is a work around.

My 2001 Olds Integre will not start, but later does start.

This may be a problem with the ignition switch. The ignition switch feeds power to many of the different systems- including the starting system and the dash.A low voltage output of the switch will not allow the starter relay to engergize, along with many other odd problems. A way to check this is that when it is acting up, turn the ignition key back and forth very quickly many several times, or tap and the head of the key with a small hammer. These things will normally cause a faulty ign switch to correct itself for the time being.
