If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing

  • The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
  • Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.
Where is the heater core on a 2005 grand caravan - f74-01.gif The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core. Heater Core
  • Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
  • Remove the heater coolant hoses.
  • Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
  • Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
  • Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
  • To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan and the heat has not been working for a couple weeks now, and now it is leaking a pink fluid from front passenger side, and over heating on the gage but then cooling

if you have a leak inside it may be a heater core problem which can cause all your problems. check it by doing a pressure test on the cooling system.

Smell antifreeze when heat or defroster is on 2005 dodge caravan

very good indication of a heater core. Is there coolant on the floor or can you here water when the fan is blowing or sound like it is sloshing around on the passenger side if so it will be a heater core which you would have to pull the dash to do the dealer you would look at about 5-6 hr. job 4-6 hundred roughly.

Car heat takes 10 to 15 minutes on a 2005 dodge

could be clogged up heater core or the heating helper element ..if you look for the heater air box you should see a 3 wire plug with i believe its 2 screws on it remove it and start the car and have someone hold it {not the coil wire ends and turn on the heat it should glow red hot this is the heater coil helper you may also have insufficient antifreeze remove radiator cap and check fluid levels also while your there feel the top and bottom hose to see if they both get hot and that you feel water in them but 1st ensure the radiator is full if just the top hose going into the heater-core to the firewall is hot and the bottom one is cold you should have a radiator flush to dislodge the Gunk buildup in the heater core .
