Help I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4. Recently, it started surging on me. While I am driving, the oil pressure gauge will go high then return to normal. While it is doing this, my RPM's go low and high. Any suggestions? I have had the spark plugs changed but, the guy told me it doesnt have spark plug wires. I have added injector cleaner, changed the air filter also. Maybe needs a fuel filter? Any suggestions?

I have the same problem with my jeep. Have changed plugs and 1 fuel injector. it ran good for about a day then check engin light came back on. took it in and the guy checked the code and said he had never seen that many codes. now it wont idle at times it will even die going around corners wich is not good because you lose steering when the engine dies.

Just bought a 2000 cherokee laredo v8. Having the same surge problems.

Sometimes at a stop the rpm's surge back and forth between 500 and 1500 rpm's and sometime the engine will die.. Today the check engine light came on...now it's back off??

I've read on-line that it could be the oxygen senors??

Hey, I just had the same rpm surging problem... really bad all of a sudden over the last couple days. The check engine light came on today and it's idle changed from big time shaking to barely a pulse. Drove okay on the highway on our way to my favorite auto repair. A diagnostic showed that the third spark was dead and upon the advice of a senior mechanic  - spark plugs were changed along with the coil. I dunno if that was smart on my part I could have tried just the plugs first. But I figured I have never changed any of these before and it is getting older. So with a new coil, spark plugs and minus $375 from my world - ... but it's running pretty well now.

I had the same problem and I found out that the battery was bad. since everything runs off the computer there wasnt enough juice to run both the car and the computer the jeep ran good after putting a new battery in it. so try this first before you spend a lot of money on a shop fix because they wont think about the battery being bad. they will want to replace everything but. hope this helps

What to check when oil pressure gauge flucuates while driving a jeep cherokee

To verify there is a problem, remove the oil pressure sending unit, replace it with a test gauge, start the car, idle, accelerate etc and watch the gauge for any abnormal variations it should react to evry change in acceleration and not be below the minimum or above the max as per the service specs.

Recently bought a jeep grand cherokee laredo 1994, it had been sitting for a year or so. When we got it started it is tapping a little, smoking alot, and gauge is showing zero oil pressure. I'm af

If it is a 4.0 strait six cylinder this is a common problem on them.Mine was located just below the oil filter and is pretty easy to fix.Plan it on your next oil change and it is even easier to change out.Oh just so you know your 4.0 liter engines do make a little bit of noise but are pretty much bulletproof if you just do regular maintence on them.Next time you start it put your ear down by the driver side hood hinge. You will find some tapping noise there it is part of the evap system. If it had no oil pressure you would know it rite away.

How many miles? How many starts and stops? Are you using too high of a viscosity?

I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. When I go above 30 ish it starts to whine, but if I turn off the overdrive, the sound goes away. What could this be? Also just recently my oil gauge is really...

Check the level of the differentials, transmission and transfer case. any of those if low can cause a whine...hopefully if low you haven't sustained any major damage. Could also be an internal converter problem.
As for the oil pressure being high, you may have a sticking pressure relief or the wrong oil filter installed. Check the filter number and make sure it gets warm (if not oil isn't going through it) and you can add some marvel oil to the engine which will often clear up any internal valving problems. Could also be a bad sending unit....only way to know that is to either replace it or have an external test gauge installed and read the actual pressure.

Have high oil pressure reading when driving goes down to 55-60 when sitting at light,2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo 2-wheel drive 4.0 litre engine

the 1st thing that needs to be done is have a mechanical oil pressure test gauge hooked up to confirm the actual reading, the electronic gauge many times is incorrect.

What causes the oil pressure gauge to fluctuate on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?

If the oil pressure is good and there is no engine noises then the oil pressure sending unit is the problem.Just replace it and you should be good.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Oil pressure loss

the 1st thing u do is have the oil pressure tested with a test mechanical gauge by a shop, most times it is just the oil pressure sending unit is defective, but never assume that is the problem, low oil pressure will distroy a $5000.00 engine very quickly, u can just try a new sending unit, but highly recommend a pressure test with a mechanical gauge before you run the engine anymore.

My 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee cuts off while I'm driving.

If you have zero oil pressure thats a BAD sign, first have a mechanic check what the engines actual oil pressures are.

I'm receiving a check gauges warning light on my 00 Jeep Grn Cher

This might be a result of an oxygen sensor. If you take the vehicle to a store like autozone, they will attach a diagnostic sensor to your vehicle at no charge, and then reset the unit, and be able to tell you what is going on. This is at no charge, so there is nothing to lose. I hope this helps.
