Security system light is on - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

fuel pump shut off due to security light on ????? Security systems do not disable fuel pumps , disables cranking and or fuel injectors . So what the service light isn't on ??? If the security light is lit codes are stored in the BCM - body control module ,theft deterrent module , What ever controls the theft system on your fantom vehicle . Your best bet ,have it towed to a qualified repair shop.

If the light is on there are code stored ! Not in the PCM/ECM engine computer . In the BCM , do you know what that is ? body control module ! Need a factory scan tool or equivalent to check !

Why does everyone want to chop up things , by pass etc... The right fix could be cheaper then ruining your vehicle . Chopping up wiring harnesses . Their are by pass module , don't know how much they are . It may or may not fix the problem . Pulling the code and doing the diagnostics is still the best solution .

The Security Indicator Light illuminates to indicate that the security system is either working properly or to let you know that there is a fault in the system.
If the Security Indicator Light is flashing with the key out of the ignition lock and accessory position, this is a normal sign that the alarm and the immobilizer system is active.
While starting the car or key in the "run" position, the security lamp should illuminate briefly then go out. This a "bulb check" and is also normal.
If the Security Indicator Light is on steady with the key in the "run" position, and the vehicle won't start, there could be a fault with the system. In this case, the first thing to try is a different key to see if this starts the vehicle. If it starts, the key is faulty or the system has a problem with that key. If you are still getting a no-start with the light on steady, the system is at fault and will need to be inspected.

If the Security Light is on but is not flashing, the security system is fine. If the security light is flashing then turn the ignition key to the run position (do not start). Wait over ten minutes and then try to start the engine. After the ten minutes you should notice that the light stopped flashing. This is an all too common problem on GM vehicles. The problem is in the antitheft system. When the system loses communication (like when a part breaks or fails) the system locks out the starter because it thinks it is getting stolen. The SECURITY light that is lit up proves this problem. That is the only function of the security light. The security system considers low voltage a threat to the security of the vehicle. MAYBE, just maybe the gauge not reading the voltage correctly is causing the security system to shut you down. 2 options: Fix the gauge and hope that allows the secuiry to work properly OR bypass the security system so it CANT shut you down... The security light is an infamous problem on GM vehicles. They tend to NOT be tied into anything other than the ignition, TDM computer (theft deterrent module), starters or injectors. But anything is possible on new cars. I'll tell you what, bypassing that security system is a gauranteed way to get that car running again. Only takes about an hour as i have done alot of these personallly. This site has tons of info and ive done both different bypasses decribed on this site and they both work. Pending on your vehicle's system.

The security system may have something to do with it. The system sends a signal from the key to the i/p cluster, then to the ecm to allow the fuel injectors to operate.

Is the security light on when you try to start the car and leave the key in the run position? Does the security light flash when the key is left in the run position after you try to start the engine? If so, let the security light flash until it stops, turn off the key for 30 seconds, then try to restart the engine. If the engine starts and the security light stays off have someone get the codes out of the security system and have it fixed properly.
