2006 HONDA CIVIC GEAR SHIFT LIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT

all you have to do is pop the little square piece around the gear shift lever up and there is a wire with a tiny bulb on it. It is a pain in the butt to get all the pieces back in place and put the square piece back down. i have had to replace mine like every 6 months. be careful not to use too much force because you can break the clips that secure it in place and that will look worse than your bulb not working

How to replace gear shift indicatoc lamp on 2005 pontiac grand prix

You need to first remove the shift knob...with the car off, turn to on...not start, and pull the shift lever down to engage the low gear...then look on the backside of the knob for the removal clip, or screw...if yours has the u clip, you need to pull this out...(needle nose pliers) and remove...(or unscrew the small screw if equipped) You can now lift the knob straight up and off...you then need to remove the screws that hold down the center console...on the inside of the console, at the bottom...this will allow you to view and remove the indicator bulb...be sure to match the bulb exactly...some are bulb # 124...Switch out the bulb and reassemble...the u clip or screw must be back in place as the last step to re-attach the knob...Hope this helps.

I have a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid and the light that illuminates the gear identification (letter/numbers) under the center stick shift console is not functioning. How do I replace that bulb?

Welcome to Fixya

Carefully remove the gearshift trim with a tool (screwdriver covered with tape to prevent scratching). With the trim removed (first picture) you can now see the wires to the light bulb socket. To access the socket, lift up the top of the console by inserting the screwdriver and prying. Pry at the four tabs. Note the back of the console top can be left in place. Here's the link with pictures for better understanding.

How to remove the center console cover on a 2005 Honda Civic to replace the burned out bulb for the shift indicator light to work.

I don't have the answer for you but you can search the web for information about adjusting the parking brake as that also requires removing the center console. I'm under the impression that interior trim removal type tools may be helpful so as to not ding things up.

Shift indicator light not working at night, 2002 civic ex

Remove the center console covering around the gearshift, you'll find a very small bulb there, it's very common for them to burnout, change it and you'll be fine.

Light bulb is burned out on gear shift console. How to remover cover?

The center console needs to be removed, pull the shift plate plastic cover off, remove two bolts inside the console storage box, remove the phillips screws that are visible, the front center storage box also has to be removed, the bulb is located on the left side of the shifter from underneath.

Hope helped with this (remember rated this help) Good luck.

The light near my automatic gear shift won't light up, with or without the headlights on. The light for my cruise control buttons won't light up either...??

I successfully did this on my 2001 Honda Civic.

You have to remove the entire center console to get to the light. I recommend actually having the replacement bulb prior to starting. I used a Sylvania 74 that I picked up at the local auto parts store. They are tiny bulbs. About $3.

Here is a diagram I found that was very helpful in removing the center console:

07f6bbd.png

In A above, you have to work out the middle portion of the console by pulling up on it. There are tabs that hold it in place on either side of it but you can't get to them. By using my fingers and grabbing the inside of the main dish, I applied upward pressure and it came out. It did not break in the process, but I can't guarantee the result will be the same for you.

In picture B you will see that there are two screws hidden underneath the part you just removed. You need to remove those two screws plus the two tabs shown in front and the two screws located in the rear close to the floor.

You will need to put the shift into neutral or farther back to then lift out the entire console.

Once the console is removed you will see a wire going into the right side just underneath the gear shift. If you look into where it's going, you will see the back side of a small round socket. Rotate the socket about 90 degrees and it should come out. Voila! The bulb.

Simply pull the bulb out and push in a new one. Turn on the headlights to test. The bulb should be nicely lit.

Now push the socket back into where it came from and rotate back 90 degrees to lock it in place. If you reverse the rest of the instructions, putting the console back together will just take a minute or two.

Finally, write an email to Honda and tell them what you think about how easy it is to replace this lamp.
