2000 Audi A4 Radio Problem

I just recently purchased a used 2000 Audi A4 and I can not get the radio to work. I know that the battery was just replaced on the car before I bought it, so I was thinking that I just needed to put the radio card code back into the car but nothing happens when I press the on/off switch. The word safe does not appear on the screen....nothing appears on the screen. Please help!

I do see the SAFE display but i tried to put 2x the code and none of the was the correct one. Since then i cant get access to try another code again. Im guessing that this is becasue the radio got blocked and now im wondering if there is a way to reset it so that i can try another code?

Would the dealer be able to reset it as the last ressource? Im affraid that not even them would be able. PLS help me out .

Thanks in advance for any answer.

hey guys there is 2 buttons one is mark DX and FM1/2 depress these two at the same time and hold them until you see the code 1000 appear then release .. enter this code of 1711 and it should unlock your radio.. if that does not work contact your Local Audi dealer and get ready to shell out some serious cash..

I have a couple of answers for different problems... here

1. to the user who has nothing on the display...
ANSWER: check your fuses etc... treat it like a bad radio... check you wires for connection...

2. To the user who has the ability to put the code in and has tried it two of the three times...

If are able to you read a manual you will feel more secure as: it is not a permanent "locking" of the radio (if you try three times and all are failed attempts...) either wait the typical hour and retry, or disconnect it from the power....reconnect it AND then retry at will..

When all else fails ... GO to the dealership...

as long as you havent stolen the radio...

For the most part the dealership will charge you nothing...

If they have to "pull" your radio to see the radio Vin number they charge 15 bucks...

but if they dont .. I think they will help you reset your car radio for nothing... in hopes you will return for further service!

Best to you!

To the reader who asks: what is the code.. well there are 9,999 possibilities. : ) there is no "one" code fits all each radio is programmed internally via a security chip form the factory. The dealership keeps a list based on your VIN which radio code you need. Also for those of you that are lucky enough to still have it with the car.. in many glove boxes are the original radio owners manual and often the number is in that booklet in a pull out card and the previous owner was kind/ smart enough to leave the card in the booklet. or they write it somewhere in hte same booklet so even though the card is removed, the number is still with the car. Good Luck, D~Fixer

Do you have the user manual in the car? I am taking it you don't. Right to fix the problem, working on the previso that the previous owner didn't enter the wrong code that is.

Firstly make sure the key is in the ignition but you do not need to switch the engine on, but the the dashboard light & radio needs to be illuminated.

On the radio hold down the TP & RDS buttons together until the 'Safe' disappears. Then using buttons 1245, enter the code. You will need to press each of the button several times each until the correct code appears. Then hold the TP & RDS buttons again briefly. Do not press the buttons down for too long.

If however, this doesn't work, it means a wrong code was enter 3x previously and you will need to reset the system. To do this, you will need to be patient as you need to leave the key in the ignition for one hour until the SAFE disappears. Then do as above.

The way to tell if the wrong code appears is that you will see the number 1 in the top left of the radio display for each time a code has been entered.

Good luck. If it helps I write from experience and I am now happily listening to my radio etc again.

Yeah but what is the code to enter in? I went to the audi dealership and they said it would take them an hour and $ 145 dollars cuz they have to pull the radio out and plug their equipment into the radio. Does anybody know the code??

SOURCE: how do i get the audi radio off safe mode?

IMPORTANT NOTE: You must have the security anti-theft code for yours Audi Concert radio from the car manufacturer! For Audi Concert the sequence of programming is:
1. Push simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys until on the screen will appear "1000" displayed.
2. Release keys. No more push on "SCAN" and "RDS" keys because otherwise number "1000" will be considered as first safe code attempt.
3. By the #1 key you will set up the first safe code digit.
4. By the #2 key you will set up the second safe code digit.
5. By the #3 key you will set up the third safe code digit.
6. By the #4 key you will set up the four-th safe code digit.
7. Then push again simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys for confirm this safe code. On the screen will be displayed "SAFE" notice. Release keys! For few seconds a radio frequence will be displayed. The radio is now ready for use!

Please rate my response. Thanks!

Car battery went dead now need to reset car radio audi a4 2000

You'll have to bring the car to a dealer. With the VIN and the serial number of the radio they can look up the security code. Be prepared - you might get this done for free or a flat charge, but many will charge up to an hour's labor. Be sure they give you the code written down for future use.

Call an Audi Dealer and give them the VIN of the vehicle. They should be able to give you the code to reset the radio. It's a anti-theft thing.

Don't know the radio reset code. Is there a factory reset?

You need to call an Audi/VW dealership and have the auz code off the back or side of the stereo, which means you have to pull out the stereo. Also you have to give the dealer your VIN # and then they can look it up for you. They may try to tell you they have to hook it up to a computer, thats BS! They will try to get you to bring it in. You have to know what you are talking about when you call, or they will give you some lame excuse to get you to bring it in. They are required to give it to you for free if you tell them the radio code isn't in the owners' manual given to you with the car.

Good luck.

And search through the audizine.com forums or any other audi forum, it will tell you what you need. You may even be able to get someone who posts on the forum and works at a dealership to look it up for you, if you ask nice.

The battery in my A4 died, now my radio doesn't work

THERE ARE ARE NORMALLY TWO PROBLEMS THAT OCCUR WHEN THE BATTERY GOES FAULTY ON THESE AUDI CARS.THE FIRST BEING THAT THE DISPLAY OF THE RADIO WILL JUST TURN RED BUT WITH COMING ON.THE FUSE AT THE BACK OF THE RADIO WILL BE THE ONE DEMAGED BUT YOU WILL NEED THE RADIO CARS TO TAKE OUT THE RADIO FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS FUSE.
THE SECOND ONE IS WHEN THE RADIO WILL REQUIRE THE ANTI-THEFT CODE THAT NORMALLY COMES WITH THE BOOKLET,BUT FOR ANY REASON YOU CAN NOT GET THIS CODE JUST GO TO YOUR NEAREST DEALER THEY WILL GIVE YOU THE CODE WITHIN MINUTES.
