2005 ford expedition... 2wd....took apart my front brakes to change the pads. On the outer pad (Stationary one) there is a clip that I had to remove to get the pad out. I went ot he store and got the new pads and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get that clip back into place. The clip is totally off the caliper.

to depress the pistons insert a large flat screw driver through the opening in the caliper, put the screw driver between the pad and the rotor, this may take a few try's, use a hammer if necessary, since u are changing rotors, once u get the large screwdriver or flat pry bar in between the inboard pad and the inside rotor pull outward, this will slowly push in the caliper hydraulic piston back and allow removal of the caliper.

You may need to replace the flexible brake line going to the caliper. One little spec of rust or dirt will restrict the brake fluid from returning to the master cylinder which will keep the caliper depressed

You need to take off the tire and using a prybar or large screw driver, force the caliper open by prying in the brake pad through the opening on the ccailper. One you get some slack in it, there are two bolts or screws in the ears of the caliper that must be removed. They may be an allen wrench style or a torx style. Not the bolts that hold the caliper bracket to the hub. Caliper should be able to be removed now. You then need a "C" clamp or caliper pistor compressor to push the piston all the way into the caliper in order to make room for the new pads. Good luck.

For front brake pads replacement you need only usually wrench set, inclusive 7 mm allen key also. But for rear brake pads replacement you need obligatory a special caliper piston pressing tool, in order to press back rear caliper piston with parking brake automatic adjustment!!!
For front brake pads. You should buy the brake pads (with wear sensor). For change front brake pads you must raise vehicle, remove wheels, extract the retaining spring of the caliper, and remove the caliper as follow:
1. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose!
2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper.
3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease).

5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston.
6. Check up the brake fluid level on the reservor, and emptying if neccessary!

8. Install inner brake pad (with expanding spring) in brake caliper piston. (Arrow marked on pad - if exist, must point in direction of brake disc rotation when vehicle is moving forward).
9. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier.
10. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm.
11. Install both caps.
12. Insert retaining spring into brake caliper housing. Important: Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions!!! Check brake fluid level and top up if neccessary!!!

Describe your fixing brakes on a 2007 Ford Problem cant seem to re-assemble the caliper after inserting new pad on front brakes, the spring clip[s are in the way. The outer pad clips wont let the two...

Anti-rattle clips can really be a head scratcher. Try orienting them differently. Their purpose is to place a slight lateral pressure on the caliper so when your driving over RR tracks and stuff the calipers don't rattler around annoying the heck out of you. When installed they should be tight and snap into place.

How to insall front brake pads on a 2000 Ford Focus

caliper bolts are 7 mm Torx head.

  1. Loosen the wheel nuts.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02 .
  1. Remove the wheel.
  1. Detach the brake hose from the support bracket.
  1. Detach the outer brake pad retaining clip.
  1. NOTE: Pull the caliper outwards to release the piston.
    Detach the caliper.
    1. Remove the bolt covers.
    1. Remove the bolts.

sounds like the caliper slides are frozen /also make sure you have the right pads for the application
