If when you change the temp setting the blend door moves through its range of motion, it is working properly. If you have a hearter water control valve on the heater hose in the engine compartment, it should also open and close when you change the setting. If you don't have such a valve on the heater hose, the problem could be a clogged heater core. To test for a clogged core, turn the heater off for a few minutes then turn it back on. If it is warm for a short while and then turns cold, the core has insufficient flow.
Or, if your engine is running cold, your engine thermostat may be stuck open.
Please let me know if you have questions.
Thank you for the quick reply. I'll look for the heater water control valve 2moro. The heater doesn't feel warm after being turned off for a few minutes and then turned on so I'm guessing the core isn't blocked. I'm not sure how quickly the engine should heat up or how warm especially as it's cold outside at the moment. I've only had the car for a few days, but the temp guage does take a long time to move and doesn't go very high when it does. I'll let you know what I find.
Thanks, Phil.
You can put a paper or cardboard sheet in front of the radiator behind the grille until spring to keep the engine a little warmer in cold climates. I do not have a book on Sedona, as I don't think it is sold over here, but the other Kia models do not seem to have a heater water control valve. Recommend you feel the heater hoses as they hook up to the heater core at the firewall to see if they are getting hot.
