Yeah it could be a myriad of different problems with the ignition system or the fuel system it's hard to say without more information but there are some basic test you can do without a scan tool to maybe limit the possibilities down if you to do some troubleshooting. Check the fuel pressure at the rail, baby pull the mass airflow sensor and clean that, the throttle positioning sensor in the throttle body could probably be cleaned is the air filter good, it sounds most likely a fuel issue. But like the previous poster stated get a scan tool if you can but I'm sure you would have done that already if it was easy to access
Plug in a scan tool and watch everything as it bogs down.

have the map sensor checked to see if it is within range you say you have codes maf make sure all clamped duct work is tight and not loose clamps .iac motor clean bore if the pintle gets stuck will cause rough idle hesitation even no start conditions scan tools only test the idle air control valve motor not the bore that extends to block varnish gets built up on the pintle and in the bore wich binds the in and out operation

If you are in a position where changing the O2 sensors has improved the engine, it is possible that the engine was allowed to run rich for an extended period of time. Has there been any backfiring prior to changing the O2 sensors?
Does the car seem to loose power with more throttle, but seem to get stronger as you back off the gas?
If this is what you are experiencing, then you may have damaged your catalytic converter. Possibly even breaking off a portion of the substrate which may be causing a blockage.
A rattling noise can also be an indication of a ruined catalytic converter. You can try going to your nearest smog station and having them do a flow test of your exhaust. This can immediately diagnose the catalytic converter problem. It would take them all of five minutes to tell you for sure.
I hope this helps.
